Eyes That Do Not See IV @ Minnesota Open 2012

Post by Mike Bentley »

Looks like my old announcement got deleted, so I'll reannounce that Eyes That Do Not See IV will be happening at Minnesota Open this year. I think the plan is to do it over an extended lunch break in the main event.

This is a visual tournament of 100 tossups mainly on fine art stuff. It will be free to play/mirror. I have around 90 of the tossups "written" so far, although I still need to do the somewhat laborious step of compiling them into packets and creating the answer document. The difficulty for the tournament ranges from very easy to very hard, with probably more tossups falling on the harder side than the easier side (there are only so many gettable answers in the art canon).

For the Minnesota site, we'll just do sign ups at the tournament. If you want to mirror this, send me an e-mail at [email protected]. It will be done by Minnesota Open, althogh there's a slight possibility it might be done a little earlier.

I'm not sure how much love you've gotten over the years for this Mike, but I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate being able to play this kind of tournament every year. Thanks for all your hard work on these sets.

What Ike said. I know these are a bitch to do, but it seriously enriches the quizbowl experiences every year. Thanks Mike!

These just straight-up are, by far, my favorite events every year. Speaking of which, I'd like to mirror it at the next New England tournament, which may or may not be QUARK on Dec. 1.

Yeah, I'd love for us to be able to do this.
I guess Columbia doesn't count as New England? Anyway, if you want to mirror it at QUARK, go ahead.

There's also maybe 30-40 trash questions of varying quality from HUSKY that people can play afterwards if they want.

Just wanted to join in the love-fest--thanks for all the effort you put into these, Mike, they really are a blast. Looking forward to (getting killed by Doug Graebner at) this year's.

Yeah, sorry, it's just that the Harvard-Yale game is always on the same weekend as MO, which is why I'm always wanting to mirror this every year.

I seem to recall its not the game that's the interesting part.

Obviously Doug won this, but are there any extant standings for the curious?

Since he started law school, Marnold has been talking about launching some sort of elaborate lawsuit against quizbowl. Well, on behalf of the UChicago quizbowl team I hereby request pro bono representation from Cravath for an ADA lawsuit demanding proper accommodation at ACF Nats, specifically that all the questions should be projected line-by-line rather than read out loud.

I realize that this won't get posted until the last mirror, but is there any way for people who won't be playing the NE or Canada mirrors to get a copy?
