Loyola Ultima XV - 1/19/2013 (Wilmette, IL)
Loyola Ultima XV - 1/19/2013 (Wilmette, IL)
Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL will be hosting the fifteenth annual Loyola Ultima on January 19, 2013. As it was last year, this year's tournament will be run on a mirror of the LIST set produced by Ladue Horton Watkins High School. It is an extremely accessible set and was widely lauded as one of the best of the 2011-2012 season.
The tournament will consist of at least nine (probably ten or eleven) guaranteed rounds for every team at the tournament. We may split into separate divisions as we did last year depending on interest. The field cap will again be at 36 teams due to staffing limitations. This is a four-on-four tournament.
As with last year, lunch will be included in the cost of the tournament. We will cater Lou Malnati's pizza for all teams and staffers. Staffers will be paid handsomely for their services, so please consider being a reader at our tournament.
The cost to teams will be $80 (prior to discounts) per team.
Discounts:
-$10 per working buzzer system
-$10 per experienced staffer
-$20 for travelling greater than 100 mi.
If you have extenuating circumstances of any kind, email me and we can work something out.
Due to a large number of last minute drops last year, payment for this tournament must be postmarked by January 12, 2013. A +$20 penalty will be applied to schools that do not pay by this date.
Sign-ups are officially open at this point and only A and B teams will be admitted at this time. Any teams beyond the first two will be placed on the waitlist until December 15.
Please post here or email me at [email protected] to sign up.
We will also be hosting a pop culture tossup-only tournament following the conclusion of the tournament. We will order in Jimmy John's for people who want to stay and eat some dinner. You can find details about the side event here.

As of now, put Fenwick A in the standard division. I'll ask my kids if they want to play up.

Re: Loyola Ultima XV - 1/19/2013 (Wilmette, IL)
Here is the email I just sent out to coaches:
EDIT: This email's list of teams is not current. The fully updated list is in the second post above.Hello Coaches! Thank you for signing up your team for the Loyola Ultima XV. Here are things that need immediate attention from you:
I need each team to email me and let me know:
A. How many buzzers you will be bringing
B. What division you would like your team to be in (Highly Competitive or Standard [current divisions are at the bottom of this message])
C. If you are currently in a division and you think that your team should be moved to the other
We are pleased to announce that we will continue our annual tradition of running a mirror of Bob Kilner from Ohio's Pop Culture set as a charitable side event following Ultima. Proceeds from this event will go to Matt's Buzzers. This will be an all-tossup tournament, and will probably be played with two people to a team. If we have enough interest, we will play with full teams. This event is open to any and all, including coaches, siblings, pets, and inanimate objects. Entry will be $5 per person. Please email me if you or your team is interested in staying for this event.
I currently anticipate having 14 teams signed up for the Standard division. If you have some extra kids and want to enter another team for no charge, I would like to get that number up to 16 or 18.
Please arrive at Loyola sometime between 8 - 8:30am. The opening meeting will be in the Theater at 8:45am. From there we will move to game rooms and begin play at 9am. We anticipate being finished with the tournament by 4:30pm.
Lunch will be Lou Malnati's pizza catered. Please let me know if you or any of your students have any dietary restrictions and we will work to accommodate them.
The format for the Highly Competitive division will probably just be a round robin followed by finals if necessary.
The format for the Standard division (if we get to 16 teams) will be either four divisions of four which will rebracket into two divisions of eight, or two divisions of eight which will rebracket into four divisions of four.
Here are the current fields for both divisions:
Highly Competitive
Loyola A
St. Ignatius
Belvidere North A
Auburn A
St. Joseph (IN)
Fenton
Carbondale
Culver (IN) A
Standard
Loyola B
Culver (IN) B
Fenwick B
Belvidere North B
WWS B
Auburn B
Culver (IN) C
Maine South B
Keith Country Day
UIC College Prep
WWS C
Fenwick A
Teams yet to choose a division
Whitney Young
Wauconda
Latin
WWS A
Maine South A

Re: Loyola Ultima XV - 1/19/2013 (Wilmette, IL)
OK, let's see if we can't get that Standard Division up to 18 so that we don't have to do a wonky format.
Re: Loyola Ultima XV - 1/19/2013 (Wilmette, IL)
Thank you for continuing the tradition I started.
Just an FYI for those doing the side event: if you are planning to attend BMI3 the following weekend, both tournaments are using the same set for side events.

Re: Loyola Ultima XV - 1/19/2013 (Wilmette, IL)
We do need one more team for the Highly Competitive division. If anyone wants to enter for just the price of pizza, you're in. If no one enters, we will either have a team move up from Standard or play with byes.
Re: Loyola Ultima XV - 1/19/2013 (Wilmette, IL)
We're still looking for a team to play in the Highly Competitive division. We have any number of schools that can put together another team for the Standard division, so ideally, we would have one team to move up to Highly Competitive (Auburn B? Fenwick A? Wauconda A? Whitney Young?).

Our stats against Latin are off (although the final score is correct, our bonus conversion is majorly depressed) and we somehow had 2 players, Baasit and Avik, merge into a player named Avile. Who should I email/PM with corrections?

If you know exactly what it should be, me. If it requires going back to the scoresheets, Mr. Laird.shrey96 wrote:Our stats against Latin are off (although the final score is correct, our bonus conversion is majorly depressed) and we somehow had 2 players, Baasit and Avik, merge into a player named Avile. Hopefully the set went well (we're really sorry for those small errors! ) -- please remember not to publicly discuss any specifics, as there are still other mirrors yet-to-happen. A private discussion forum has been set up; to join it, go to user control panel (at top left of this page) --> usergroups (one of the tabs) --> toggle "LIST III discussion" and press join selected.
