QuAC IV at Penn (1/26/2013)

Post by Sima Guang Hater »

This is the announcement for the 4th iteration of the Quaker Academic Competition at the University of Pennsylvania. The tournament will take place on 1/26/2013.

Questions and Tournament Format

We plan to use Chattahoochee's CATT set for this tournament. These will be power-marked regular difficulty questions, so we encourage teams of all skill levels to attend. The field will be capped at 40 teams.

We will endeavor to maximize the number of guaranteed games for all teams in attendance. In doing so, will use brackets and an ACF style final. All games will run in accordance with ACF rules (5 seconds to buzz, 5 seconds to answer, and 5 seconds after the end of a bonus part).

Registration

We will use the following fee structure:
$70 for first team
$50 for each additional team
-$10 for each working buzzer system
-$10 for each experienced staffer
-$10 for every 200 miles traveled
Minimum fee per team: $30

Contact Eric Mukherjee at [email protected] to register.

Logistics

Eric Mukherjee will be the tournament director.

As the tournament date approaches, we will update this section with the relevant information and will also email team contacts.

Current Field (teams, moderators, buzzers)
Ridgewood (1, 1, 3)
State College (2, 0, 1)
St Joseph (2, 1, 1)
Phoenixville Area HS (2, 0, 0)
Mountain Lakes (2, 1, 1)
Charter (3, 1, 1)
Manheim Township (2, 0, 2)
Irvington (1, 0, 0)
Loudoun County High School (1, 1, 1)

TOTAL: (16, 6, 10)

Feel free to contact Eric Mukherjee at [email protected] for any questions. We hope to see you this spring!

We would love to participate, but I do not think we can, since I am pretty sure we played HSAPQ 32 earlier this month in Connecticut.

Attention! We have just received permission to use CATT instead of HSAPQ T32 (which I am to understand several NY/NJ teams have seen at Newtown). So please take a second look at this tournament and bring your full teams!

Manheim Township would like to register two teams, and we will bring two buzzer systems.

A lot of our players can't make it, so these won't be our usual A and B teams.

Irvington is definitely thinking of attending but because this tournament is 3 hours away form us I am hesitant to register because I anticipate transportation issues. But I suppose we'll register one team for now. Also what time does this tournament start?

EDIT again: Ridgewood has dropped to 1 team, and we still need at least one team to fill out the field. I've heard High Tech may be sending a team; them, others, please let us know ASAP.

EDIT again: Colonia HS has now dropped out. Anyone want to take their place?
