Hey--
Now that Newtown is receding in the rear view mirror, why not send us an email and sign up for CT INV IV? We had a great turnout last year, and this year we will be on UConn campus with even more glamorous playing rooms! Sign up soon, slots are limited! Hope to hear from you soon!

Just an update on proceedings...we will be in Oak Hall at UConn the day of the tourney, a brand new (and very comfortable) classrooms building at the university. Check the field update too--we are at 9 teams and climbing.

Hello folks--13 teams and climbing (only 24 spots available!). In other news I just affiliated our tourney with PACE, so placing well in CT INV IV qualifies your team for NAQT and PACE national championships.

Good News--We've pretty much reached our original limit of 24 teams for CT INV IV, but we've been able to scrounge up a few more rooms to play in. We've only got 2 1/2 weeks to go, but you can still squeeze your school into the field! Drop us a line!

Hello--any last minute stragglers out there? We have been able to expand the field and can take 8 more teams. Don't forget--this is a good qualifier for PACE and HSNCT, with plenty of time afterwards to make arrangements to go to either big tourney. Drop us a line!

Re: CT INV IV (E. O. Smith/IQConn, Storrs CT) - 2/2/13
Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for attending the CT Invitational IV and for bearing with us despite the room difficulties.
I see that there were some confusion as to the way we determined the winners. Basically we separated the 24 attending teams into four new brackets based on their record from group play in the morning; top six best records were put into bracket Sarah (next six in bracket Rebecca, next six in bracket Rachel and last six in bracket Leah). We decided that the team with the best play-off record to be the champion.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day, three teams (Lexington, High Tech, and Ridgewood) have identical records (all at 4-1). We then decided to award the championship to the team with the highest average points per game, and this is Lexington at 371 points per game over High Tech 356 points per game. Though Ridgewood benefited from a forfeit for its last game, it was highly improbable for them to score enough points in the last game to over take High Tech in terms of average points (They needed more than 640 points).
We decided not to use head to head records for a variety of reasons:
1. During play-off, Ridgewood beat High Tech, High Tech beat Lexington, and Lexington beat Ridgewood, which gives all teams claim for the title.
2. High Tech also lost to Lexington during Group Play.
For all those who can't wait to see their own stats from this tournament, here is the link:
http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... d_results/
(Overall data maybe missing games from lower brackets, due to teams' early departures)
I apologize in advance for all mis-spelled names; unfortunately, public education does not include handwriting classes.

also, just one last thing...
Please disregard the team standings page on the stat report for this tournament. That was the final printout of the SQBS software for the overall tournament, but it does not reflect the bracketing that we instituted for the second half of the day.
I will attach an excel file reflect the true team standings of the tournament with second half bracketing adjustments. I'm just not going to do it now, at 1 am.
Thanks for understanding,
