BMI3 at Bloomington HS on January 26, 13 (Bloomington, IL)

Post by Dominator »

Bloomington High School and the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy are pleased to announce the third iteration of their tournament partnership. BMI3: Bloomington Mirror of IMSANITY 3 will take place at Bloomington High School in Bloomington, IL on January 26, 2013.

This tournament is using the IMSANITY 3 set, produced by the members of the quizbowl teams of IMSA and Loyola Academy. More information about the set can be found here.

The tournament is open to all interested teams, although we will temporarily cap the field at 24 teams until sufficient interest and staff urge us to increase that limit. Attached are an invitation letter and registration form. Hope to see you there!

Bloomington High School is interested in attending and competing in this as well!

We should have 2- 3 teams with 2 buzzer sets.

Please put Fenton down for 1 team. We can bring 1 buzzer system and I can staff if needed.

I have just received word that this tournament is Platinum certified by PACE. The top 25% of the field will qualify for the 2013 PACE NSC tournament.

Based on the amount of interest, I am announcing that there will be a small pop culture side event after this tournament.

Format: tossup-only, 20pt powers, no negs. Teams of up to 4. Anyone can play (even hobos if they fork over the dough). $5/head, proceeds go towards Matt's Buzzers.

If you want in, shoot me an email.

Sidney would like to bring one team. I will get the registration form filled out and e-mailed in and the requisition for the check filled out this afternoon.

Edit: School being difficult about out of state travel - not looking good

Excellent! The field has expanded a lot in the last couple days. We are temporarily capping the field at 18 due to staffing concerns, but would happily grow further if enough teams and moderators are interested. If you want in this field, though, please register soon.

Northmont beat Macomb in the first game of a final in which they were advantaged. Third place was Fenton; fourth place was Bloomington A. Tristan Willey (Macomb) was the top individual scorer in the prelims, with 202.86 ppg.

After the tournament, there was a small trash tournament. The Mike Sorice-led "We Hate Basketball With All Our Heart" went 7-0 to clear the field. The funds raised will be donated to Matt's Buzzers.

Thanks to Bloomington, Centennial, and IMSA for sticking around despite the logisticial snafus. Major thanks to Arun Doogar (Centennial), Jonah Greenthal, and Sabrina Lato (IMSA) for reading, and the other IMSA players who scorekept.
