MUT at Alabama (3/16/13)

Post by The Ununtiable Twine »

Greetings everyone!

I'm happy to announce that Alabama will be hosting a mirror of Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament: Old Cajun Grandma Invitational V on Saturday, March 16, 2013. I will serve as tournament director for this event. The tournament will take place at Bidgood Hall. Current field cap is 8 + 2n teams, where n is the number of rooms that outside volunteers can staff. The maximum this can reach is 20 teams. I'm currently comfortable with letting n = 2, strongly leading toward n = 3.

Registration will run from 8:00 to 8:45 so that we can begin play at 9:00.

Eligibility: If you are an undergraduate student or a high school student, you may play this tournament. There will be no open teams for this event.

Fee structure:

$90 per team
-$5 per buzzer system (limit 2)
-$10 per moderator
-$7 per 200 miles as the Google maps indicate
minimum fee: $50 (per team)

I hope to see a decent-sized field for this event.

Ah, yes, please register by emailing me at husbandofsamus at gmail dot com. For those teams that are interested, I'll need an email confirmation from you in order for you to register for this event.

Field: (10). I am capping the field at 10 given that I am about to make schedules, buy prizes, and whatnot. I may allow exactly one additional non-House team to sign up if there is still interest.

Alabama House (3)
Auburn-Montgomery (1)
Georgia (1)
Ole Miss (1)
Tulane (3)
Wofford (1)

Staffers:
Jake, Dargan, Harrison (perhaps?), Jonathan, Tulane staffer (Ryan?), Meredith Harper

Buzzers:
Alabama (3)
Auburn-Montgomery (2)
Georgia (1)
Ole Miss (1)
Tulane (2)
Wofford (1)

West Point may be interested. I'll let you know next week. Also, if you change your mind about Open Teams, I'll play.

This is on our spring break, but I'll bring it up with my teammates to see if we could perhaps field a team.

The open team thing is the policy of Minnesota's team and there are good reasons for it, so we'll be sticking with the guidelines, however if people would like to scrimmage on any leftover packets after the event, I'm sure that would be fine.

We don't really have one, but we would like to know at least by the Monday or Tuesday before the tournament.

Just as a reminder (since it wasn't included in the original first post) people need to email me in order to register for this tournament.

Is the distance discount for one-way distance or round trip?

Congratulations to Alabama A (Harrison Brown, Mark Blanton) for winning, clearing the field by 2 games. The stats can be found here.
