MUT Mirror at Carleton (Canada) (16/03/2013)

Post by Copperboomer »

Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada) is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the Canadian mirror of MUT. It will take place on March 16th, in Ottawa.

This tournament is open to undergraduates and high school students. Graduate students are NOT allowed to play, but they are more than welcome to staff, and partake in general trivia silliness.

We are capping the field at 10 teams as we are trying to ensure things run as smoothly as possible at our first tournament

The difficulty of the questions will be in-between ACF Fall and Regionals. For more information on difficulty of questions, you can see previous years' packets at

http://collegiate.quizbowlpackets.com/

The fees are as follows:

Cost:
Base Fee: $100
Distance Discount: (200 kilometres or more one way) -$20
(Working) Buzzers: -$10 (maximum of 2 per team; 4 per school)
Moderator: -$20
Scorekeeper (can rotate but must be available every round): -$10
Shorthanded Team (2 players or less): -$30
High School Team: -$20
Minimum Fee: $40

It is on March 16th, which is the day before Ottawa University hosts their VIIth Hybrid Tournament. Event details for that can be found here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =8&t=14110

We are running these two tournaments on the same weekend to minimize traveling costs for teams.

For the HSQB announcement of the original tournament: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... &hilit=MUT

If you are interested in playing, or have any questions email me at [email protected].

EDIT: Added High School discount.

Toronto won this tournament after a round-robin ended with a three-way tie between Toronto, Waterloo and Ottawa A, each at 6-2. After seeding by PPB, Toronto beat Waterloo in the 2 v. 3 game, and then beat Ottawa in the final. Congrats to Toronto, and thanks very much to Carleton for a splendid job of hosting! Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at Hybrid!

Here are the stats: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/1380/ . I did the statistics while playing, so if there are any mistakes, feel free to contact Isuri or myself.

Congratulations to Harry and Cooper from Toronto on winning the event after two close playoff games after Toronto, Waterloo, and Ottawa finished in a three way tie for first place. Furthermore, congratulations to Harry for finishing as top scorer.

Thanks to Isuri and the staff members for making this successful.
