Side Event: Schindler's Lit

Post by MorganV »

A literature side-event written by the illustrious Max Schindler, "Schindler's Lit" will be run Saturday night at HSNCT and possibly elsewhere if demand exists.

It will consist of 7 packets of 20 power- and superpower-marked tossups, slightly easier than regular collegiate difficulty. The distribution:

4 American Lit
4 British Lit
4 Euro Lit
4 World Lit
4 Other (Can be more of the above, trash/fringe lit, or anything else)

Teams of four. Form teams here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... ramc#gid=0
Anyone can play, for $10/person.

I would like to play this and am looking for teammate(s) (depending on how it gets run). I'm good at books I've read and other random lit.

Is this planning on being run anywhere else besides HSNCT? (I wouldn't mind having some local mirrors of "just play through all the side events written for national tournaments," actually).

Is this event really intended for seasoned veterans? I might play if the field is strong enough (and the questions are appropriate), but worry that this could easily devolve into grad students beating up on high school students on ACF Fall questions.

I dunno, it was announced in the Collegiate Announcements forum. I certainly wouldn't mind doing separate divisions here though, if such a thing were feasible.

Sorry in advance for being ignorant (I've never played a nationals side-event before), but will there be some sort of "official" sign up sheet prior to HSNCT, or can we simply say what our teams will be that Saturday? Also, has a decision been made about whether this will be doubles/triples/quads?

Considering the demand seems likely to outstrip the number of staffers, we will probably not be able to do doubles, unless people would be interested in some sort of four-doubles-teams-per-room schedule. I'm going to tentatively say quads.

People can start forming teams here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing

This is by no means binding and people can certainly form teams at their leisure/last minute on HSNCT saturday.

Having separate divisions "standard" and "expert" would probably be a good idea if people like Rob/Ted/Matt want to play, with people free to select their own division. Re: question difficulty: Max has indicated it will probably skew harder than originally announced. Much harder than Fall, somewhere in "regular", though it will obviously be significantly easier than a CO Lit tournament since it's primarily targeted at high schoolers.

So, with seven packets, my thoughts are: We get 8, 16, or 24 teams, break into 4 brackets of 4, play three rounds. The top two teams and the bottom two teams from each bracket are sorted into two sets of parallel brackets of four; three more rounds and then a crossover game to decide final placement. Thoughts?
