Stony Brook Quiz Bowl will be hosting Collegiate Novice 4 on September 21st at SBU's Student Activities Center (located in Brookhaven, New York according to Google Maps). Details about the set can be found here. If you plan on registering, send an e-mail to [email protected] with how many teams, buzzers, and moderators you'll be bringing, along with a phone number in case we need to contact you on the day of the tournament. As usual, posting in this thread will only show interest and will not count as a registration.
Updates: Registration will close on September 19th. Field cap is currently at twelve teams.
Eligibility rules, as per the main thread:
If you would like to request special permission to play, e-mail head editor Andrew Hart at [email protected].1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.
2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.
3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.
4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
i. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits). Time in a post-secondary high school program does not count.
ii. If you were ever on a playoff or top-bracket team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.
iii. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
iv. If you have ever won any college tournament.
5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.
Fee Structure (shamelessly stolen from another mirror):
Base fee: $15 per player
Buzzers: -$5 per functioning buzzer system (we only have one buzzer system at the moment, so we really need these!)
Staff: -$5 per staff member (so long as they can either read or fill out scoresheets sufficiently well)
Travel discount: -$10 per 200 miles one-way as indicated by Google Maps
Minimum fee: $5 per player
Logistics:
Registration will open at 9 AM in SAC 306 (which is right in the middle of the Student Activities Center's third floor), and our goal is to start the tournament at 10 AM. We'll figure out a format as the tournament comes closer, but expect 8 to 10 rounds with a break after round 5.
FIELD (final):
Columbia (3 teams, 1 buzzer, 1 mod)
NYU (2 teams, 1 buzzer, 2 mods)
Stony Brook (2 teams)
Vassar (1 team, 1 mod)
Yale (1 team, 2 buzzers)
