VETO 2013-The Thing That Will Not Die
VETO 2013-The Thing That Will Not Die
After intrepidly battling through questions on blue flame test elements (one smells like "rotting radishes"), an ill-conceived Huitzilopochtli toss-up that began "ball of feathers" and an intentionally-vexatious packet including answers such as "Becoming an anti-Pope"), Team Wife of Ba'ath Party won the VETO East 2013. There was supposed to be a "Trans-Canada Championship Match" with the winner of VETO West (I think the final was UWA v. UWA B), but due to stuff on our end, it di'-'int happen.
There's still a secret pack out there. Gauntlet's still down.
You out there, Huskies?

Any idea when the packets will be released? I have a bottle of whiskey with this tournament's name on it.

Remember when Jerry worked on VETO really hard one year and a bunch of people got angry about it because they were given a good tournament? Good times.

Re: VETO 2013-The Thing That Will Not Die
Some of them (including mine) are already at the Collegiate Packet Archive, although some of the more "choice" packets didn't make it (Peter, the organizer, sent out a special request for people to consent to sending them to the archive, and I guess not everyone answered). Not too sure if there's any way of getting ahold of the ones not there (although where there's a will...).
Whiskey is a good choice. It might even help on the hand-gestures bonus.

Re: VETO 2013-The Thing That Will Not Die
I played VETO '09 as a freshman going into sophomore year of high school. A lot of us expected a casual easy tournament like that of VETO '08. In hindsight, I shouldn't have complained so much. It was a very good set.Grams's Go-Go Boots wrote:Remember when Jerry worked on VETO really hard one year and a bunch of people got angry about it because they were given a good tournament? I was on the team that won VETO West. We have no desire whatsoever of playing a Trans-Canada Championship Match.minusfive wrote: There was supposed to be a "Trans-Canada Championship Match" with the winner of VETO West (I think the final was UWA v. The privilege now passes to the other UWA team to play off for trans-Canada glory against Team Wife of Ba'ath Party.

A special task force is now consulting the VETO constitution to determine opponents for Team Wife of Ba'ath Party.

According to my reading of the children's drawing, we now play ourselves, with gumballs.
Also, now the thing that will not die is dead.

Dude no, it's a gobstopper! How in the world can you not know your own history better than Tim Hortons-less Americans? Someone call the Masked Canadian History Bandit.minusfive wrote:According to my reading of the children's drawing, we now play ourselves, with gumballs.

Re: VETO 2013-The Thing That Will Not Die
You will now be handed one envelope and one paper plate. Inside the envelope you will find (1) One pair of disposable chopsticks (2) One box of Gobstoppers. Separate the chopsticks, and pour the candy onto the plate. Using only the chopsticks, *pick up* the pieces of candy and deposit the back into the envelope. You will receive 5 points for 7> pieces, 15 for 14> pieces, 20 for 19> and 30 for 24+ pieces put back in the envelope. Points will only be scored for candy that has been picked up by two chopsticks (no rolling over the edge of the plate into the envelope). You have 40 seconds to perform this task.

No apostrophe though. Knowledge like that is why we get to keep most of them. Also, it pains me to say that I take pride in the fact that I have been to the first Tim Hortons ever (in my hometown) and the Tim Hortons in Tim Horton's home town (Cochrane, Ontario, way up North).Cheynem wrote:There are lots of Tim Horton's in the U.S.
I would have used gumballs. Gumballs are delicious. And hey, my mind is full of memorizing every US Senator/politician ever (will someone PLEASE write a Jeanette Rankin TU, goddamit!).DumbJaques wrote: Dude no, it's a gobstopper! Did they get to eat the gobstoppers? That, in my mind, determines the success of this bonus. Also, I will state again that they should have been gumballs.pandabear555 wrote:You will now be handed one envelope and one paper plate.
