I'm pleased to announce that the Georgia Institute of Technology will be hosting a mirror of Yale's BHSAT on February 15, 2014. The tournament will begin sometime around 8:30 AM, and conclude by 5 PM. The tournament will be held in Georgia Tech's Instructional Center (759 Ferst Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30318). Parking info will be forthcoming.
Fees:
$70 base fee
$-5 off the base fee for each additional team
$-5 for each working buzzer (No limit)
$-10 for each school which drove more than 100 miles to compete
Teams will be grouped into preliminary brackets in the morning before being grouped into playoff brackets based on similar performance, with ten games being guaranteed to all teams. (Teams are strongly encouraged to stay for the whole tournament.) All matches will consist of 20 tossups (no powermarks) and 20 bonuses. Bouncebacks will not be used, though negs will. *These questions will be "some combination of miscellaneous content of importance to intellectually curious high schoolers on one hand, and purely academic questions whose clues come from multiple academic categories (in the vein of NAQT's Mixed_Pure_Academic questions) on the other.
Each packet will feature a tiebreaker tossup and an extra bonus, which could come from any academic category.
The field will be capped at 18 teams for now, though I hope to be able to expand 24 teams in the future.
