NAQT
Just taking a poll: do any states regularly use NAQT questions for their state tournament series?

There are really two official "states" in Virginia: VHSL and NAQT, though the former only allows 8(?) teams that have qualified at districts/regionals.

(Im from Delaware.) im assuming that doesnt count tv tournaments? for that we use QU. i dont know what to call our official "state tournament series"
we didnt even have a state championship last year for NAQT although we usually do. we might not have one this year either. shows how much other DE schools love NAQT .

Like in Virginia, Georgia (and many other states) have two state championship tournaments -- the state organization's tournament (in Ga., the very well-run GATA tournament, which used to use NAQT questions, I think), and the NAQT state tournament, which is run on a specific set of questions and is something that I think the national organization has tried to encourage in the last year or two.
Ohio has the dreaded Ohio Academic Competition Format, which often turns into a buzzer race and IMHO, doesn't do anything to show who truly is the #1 team in the state.
Just last year, Greg Bossick held our first NAQT State Tournament and I'm running it this year, so technically Ohio now has 2 state tournaments.
If it was up to my assistant coach, we would come up with some intermediate format to in his words "Unify the titles", the same as he would like to do with all the national champions each year.

Eight per school size class, so twenty-four overall. NAQT's states is pretty much just like any other NAQT invitational tournament, except that it is restricted to Virginia schools. Sean Pickrell is basically the mastermind behind VHSL states, and the questions that he and his recruits write are pretty good.Lapego1 wrote:There are really two official "states" in Virginia: VHSL and NAQT, though the former only allows 8(?) teams that have qualified at districts/regionals.

That's because it's the NAQT Maryland State Championships.bigtrain wrote:We don't have a "state tournament series," but for our "state championship tournament" Maryland and the District of Columbia use NAQT.
DC (to my knowledge) and Maryland have no state championship organization.

Like so many others, Alabama has both a state-run (ASCA) state tournament, limited to 16 teams that have qualified through a series of district and regional tournaments.
We also have an NAQT State Championship Tournament.

For the second year ever the University of Florida will be hosting the Florida NAQT State Championship. To my knowledge, it's the only high school NAQT tournament in the state this year. The older and "other" state championship is a county-team competition in three divisions in the Panasonic (ew) format.
hammond high hosting MD state NAQT
As is posted elsewhere, Hammond High in Central Maryland (Columbia) will be hosting the state NAQT, March 25. Teams from Maryland and D.C. will be eligible for the competition. Due to the format, there will be more games for individual teams.
We'll work on pricing later in the winter. We are open to suggestions for pricing combinations (first team, second team, buzzer discounts, etc.)
