=====Original Announcement=====
Hi quizbowl,
This is the official announcement for ACF Fall 2014. The tournament will be happening the weekend of 11/8/2014.
This time is different
Over the last few years, there has been some desire to see the packet submission system changed. Particularly, we've seen that many teams who submit full packets never see their questions make it to the final set. We would like to see some change on that front.
What exactly is different?
There are 3 things that are different:
- Full packets are optional. You will only be required to submit half-packets.
The editors will tell you what distribution your submissions should adhere to. We'll have a clear picture on how this will work pretty soon.
The discount/penalty schedule is slightly different pursuant to the half-packet requirement.
I have questions about this new initiative. Who do I contact?
Send emails to [email protected] with any questions. We will be putting up an FAQ on this thread and on the website in the near future.
If you would prefer a public forum, please see this thread in the Collegiate Discussion section.
Other details
Editors
Gautam and Gaurav Kandlikar will be overseeing the production of the set.
Most of the editing will be done by Jordan Brownstein of the University of Maryland, Jacob Reed of Yale, Max Schindler of UChicago, Richard Yu of WUStL, and Ben Zhang of Columbia University.
Hosting
Hosts finalized: see the top of this post for host announcements.
We are currently soliciting hosts for all the above regions. Hosting is a good way to raise money and get newer members of your club exposed to well-written, accessible quizbowl questions. If you are interested in hosting, shoot us an email me at [email protected].
Packet Submission
Any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2013 is required to submit a packet. High school players are included in this definition and are subject to the same discounts and penalties as college teams.
Please reference this flowchart for the packet-submission guidelines. The links in the diagram are clickable. If Lucidchart is not working for you, please use this link instead. If you have questions on the submission guidelines, email them to [email protected] and we'll clarify.
Please submit packets to [email protected] and use “ACF Fall 2014: [Team Name]” in the subject line.
Submission schedule
Please refer to the below submission schedule:

Base fee: $120 for one team from a school, $240 for two teams from a school, etc.

Packet Penalties
We have clear guidelines on what your submissions can or cannot be, with information on penalties for flouting the guidelines. Please follow them. We will enforce penalties.
Friendly Reminders
Please follow the processes and guidelines laid out by the editors and ACF.
Don't talk about your submitted questions with anyone else until the editors tell you it's okay.
Please follow past iterations of ACF Fall, eg. the 2008, 2009, 2012 versions, for an idea of what your submissions should be like.
If you think a particular topic you want to write on is too hard, it probably is. Write on something easier.
If you have any other questions, please give us a holler at [email protected].
Ciao
