ICCS @ Kentucky - 9/13

Post by AKKOLADE »

The University of Kentucky will be hosting a Introductory Collaborative Collegiate tournament on Saturday, September 13, 2013 at our campus in Lexington, Kentucky. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. in the White Hall Classroom Building.

Registration: Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 10 a.m. There will be a lunch break and we hope the tournament should conclude around 5 p.m.

Entry Fees / Discounts:
$15 base fee per person ($60 for a team of 4)
-$5 per team per working buzzer system
-$5 per team if your college played zero events in the 2012-2013 school year
-$5 per team per 100 miles traveled (one way)
Minimum fee: $5 per person ($20 for a team of 4)

If your team expects to have financial difficulties, please let us know. We're more than happy to work something out with you.

Eligibility Rules:
1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.
2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.
3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.
4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
i. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits). Time in a post-secondary high school program does not count.
ii. If you were ever on a playoff or top-bracket team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.
iii. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
iv. If you have ever won any college tournament.
5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.

6. Even if one of the rule 4 categories applies to you, you may still be able to play! Email me at [email protected] to apply for special dispensation. To apply: 1) state which of the rule 4 points would render you otherwise ineligible; 2) list when and how you achieved any of the accomplishments that led to your being otherwise ineligible; and 3) state succinctly why you want to play.

The tournament director for this event will be Fred Morlan.

To register for this tournament or if you have any questions, email us at [email protected].

Kentucky A ended up winning the final of this. Louisville A took 2nd. Kentucky B and Western Kentucky tied for 3rd. Congratulations to all of these teams!

Thanks to everyone that came out to play, and special thanks to Matthew Riggle of WKU and Ramapriya Rangaraju of Louisville for helping out by moderating!
