WIT III @ Marist School (GA): A BHSAT mirror on 2/7/2015

Post by wareagle »

Marist School is pleased to host its third Winter Invitational Tournament (WIT) on Saturday, February 7th.

FIELD
The tournament will be a true invitational, showcasing the very best teams of Georgia quiz bowl. The field will therefore be limited to no more than 14 teams, with a minimum goal of 10 teams. Teams will be invited, in tiers, and the field will only be expanded periodically, assuring that we have as many of the top teams as possible in attendance, while maintaining our cap on the field.

QUESTIONS
This year we will mirror the Bulldog High School Academic Tournament (BHSAT). To learn more about the set, read here,
viewtopic.php?f=109&t=16128&p=290005&hi ... AT#p290005.

FEES
The cost will be $75, which includes four players’ lunches and one coach’s lunch. Proceeds will go to (a yet-to-be-determined charity). We ask that you consider including an additional donation in your registration fee to support the charity.

FORMAT
We will run a single round robin, which will have each team play all other teams in the field, guaranteeing a good number of games against some of the best competition in the state. We will not use bounce back bonuses. We will use both powers and negs.

We look forward to a great day of competition!

This tournament is now Platinum certified by PACE. The top 25% of the field will earn a bid to the NSC.

The second round of invitations was sent out this morning. Invitees have until 12/12 to accept. Following that, their spot can no longer be guaranteed.

The field is now closed. We will be running a ten-team round robin.

As with each of the past two years, we host this tournament with two goals in mind: to reward and highlight the best quizbowl teams from around the state and as a fund raiser for charity.

This year, the proceeds of our tournament will go towards funding the education of one student at the Buhangija Secondary School in Shinyanga, Tanzania. This school helps bring education to the underprivileged in Tanzania. Of the 363 students, nearly 200 are boarders. About 55 of the boarders are orphans, usually because their parents have died of AIDS. Some of the children have been abandoned on the streets. The school mainly relies on donations to operate. We thank you on behalf of the student’s whose life will be changed because of the support we are able to offer through hosting this tournament.

Of course, any additional donations would be welcomed and greatly appreciated.

We'd love to hear what you thought of our 2015 BHSAT question set, so if you would like to provide feedback, or if there were any questions that didn't sound quite right to you, please join the private discussion usergroup for the set. You can do so by going to "User Control Panel --> Usergroups --> 2015 BHSAT Discussion."

Thanks to all the teams for playing BHSAT and to Marist for hosting!
