Where Are You Going Next Year? (2015 College)

Post by Adventure Temple Trail »

As Rumor flaps its wings across the desert and people start to hear back from transfer applications, grad school apps, job offers, etc., it seems high time for a thread in which current college players or members of the college quizbowl community can post where they'll be next. Please post only if you have something definite to share, though that includes things besides "I am going to x and such school for [Degree]"; more general notes on moving to a new metropolitan area as a non-student/non-player/employee interested in continuing to staff or do outreach or play opens or what have you, retirements/time abroad, etc. are also welcome.

I am off to Penn State to pursue a History PhD, focusing on Reformation studies. I won't go so far to say I'll be retired, though I have no expectations to play short term. I do, however, intend to keep up with the high school outreach I've been doing in Pennsylvania, so if you have a high school event in the area, let me know!

I'll be doing an MA in philosophy at Brandeis (that is, during the spare moments when I'm not attempting to revive the lately-dormant Brandeis team).

I'll be going back for another MS starting in the fall, this time at UCF (Material Science, this time, fwiw). Since the school is local to where I live/work, I expect to be more actively involved with the quiz bowl program there.

I expect to be pursuing a masters in Education Policy at the University of Illinois starting this fall, and would be interested in playing some quiz bowl there in addition to helping staff tournaments in the area.

I'm based out of Houston, TX now and help with some tournaments here (mostly the ones hosted by Rice since they're a train ride away.) If you need me to staff, I am happy to help if I don't have other things going on.

I might look into the possibility of starting a club at U of Houston at some point, though I'm not 100% committed to the notion yet.

I will be pursuing a PhD in history at Temple University. It does not seem to me that Temple has an active club, and it is not likely that I will have time to start one. I will, however, be happy to staff those events which are easily accessible by transit in the general area, and would be happy to support any future Temple students who might want to start a club.

I'll be moving to Stamford, Connecticut for work. I don't really intend to play much unless there's some side event that's right up my alley, but if you're running a tournament close to Stamford, get in touch with me and I'm happy to staff if I'm free.

Colin Whisler (the only member of the Texas A&M A team to play DI ICT this year), will be heading up to Wisconsin for a Ph.D. in physics. He would be cool with playing some more quizbowl, but if the club isn't active he probably won't continue playing.

I am retiring from (EDIT: playing) quizbowl.

No one else from A&M is graduating.
