The Ryan Leaf Memorial Tournament (An NFL trash event)
Greetings
This is the announcement for the Ryan Leaf Memorial Tournament, an NFL based trash “tournament” written by Tyler Vaughan and myself. There will be 100 tossups that will be broken into 5 packets of 20. There won't be a specific distribution by packet but the tossups will be made up of
40 players (20 from the last 15 years, 20 from prior to that)
10 Coaches
10 Teams (Not just franchises, but memorable teams)
5 Games
5 Stadiums
5 Rules
5 Positions
20 Misc. (everything from Madden to Tebowing)
Clues will be drawn from anything relevant to the topic that I can find, but I'll be making an effort to have as few low effort statistic clues as possible (He threw 383 yards against New England and that nonsense).
I’m trying to keep this around regular difficulty but some answer lines will be much harder than others and as such will make certain tossups much harder.
There will be powers and probably super powers.
The fee to play will be five dollars.
The set should be done by the time HSNCT rolls around, so I'll try to run it there. After that, it will be available to read at whatever tournaments go on during the summer.
Feel free to ask any questions regarding this set.

This won't take very long due to it being four rounds ( five with the finals), with no bonuses. I'll try and get it to run when there's minimal conflict with other side events.

Re: The Ryan Leaf Memorial Tournament (An NFL trash event)
The event that most people seem to have possible conflicting interest in is ACF and from what I understand that is going to be played on Saturday other than an audio packet that will be done on friday night. In light of this, this will be run on Friday night with the exact time to be announced closer to HSNCT, although it will probably be before the ACFNATS packet.
Also, I've gotten a few messages expressing interest in running this at other events. If you'd like to set up a mirror (or just read the packets shootout), please e-mail me at [email protected].

A team forming spreadsheet can be found here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
I'm intending for this to be doubles as of now, although this is subject to change depending on the size of the field.

This tournament will be held following the conclusion of scrimmages. I'll post the room to meet for the tournament before HSNCT but it will most likely be near the desk to sign up for scrimmages.
The format for the tournament for now will be 3 or 4 duos per room and a general round robin for the first four rounds, followed by a final made up of the top two or three teams. All of this is based on how many people we end up getting.

Re: The Ryan Leaf Memorial Tournament (An NFL trash event)
The current plan for this tournament is as such:
10 teams of two will be split into two rooms of 5 teams each. Three rounds of 20 tossups, followed by a final featuring the top 3 scoring teams. The final packet will be reserved for tie breakers and random other tossups for people to listen to if desired.
This will start soon after scrimmages.

I'll reiterate Collin's previous message that if any free agents wish to play please move your name into a team slot.
Parks and I are both adequate readers so I can't see this event lasting for more than an hour and a half.
I am not opposed to reading this *after* GM7 as long as the majority of the current field would still be able to play.

Re: The Ryan Leaf Memorial Tournament (An NFL trash event)
This was amusing although it suffered from some problems that will hopefully be fixed in future iterations.
There was almost no randomization. At one point there were about five tossups on stadiums in a row.
Difficulty was very much on the easy side, especially if you were born pre-1990. I'm not a NFL whiz, but there were lots of first or second clue buzzer races.
There was one tossup which only existed as a sentence fragment (I knew the answer, but that's not optimal).
The tossups on more recent things and/or harder things were generally better.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for playing, and I apologize for the errors that the set had.
Since some people have expressed interest in mirroring this set Collin and I will be listening to the feedback from the HSNCT site and over the next few weeks
>Completely redo that packetizing of the set so that things like "five stadium toss ups in a row" don't happen again.
>Take a look at the older part of the distribution and rewrite them to be as difficult as the more recent stuff
>Clarify some answerlines and include better prompts(which seemed to be a problem with some of our more "unique" answers.)
Again I would like to thank everybody for playing and if you want to send more detailed feedback(including answerlines/question content) please email me at [email protected] and Collin and I will look it over. Thanks!
