VCU Open Mirror at UL Lafayette (8/15)
Greetings!
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Club for Academic Competition is pleased to announce its mirror of VCU Open. This mirror will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Moody Hall on the UL Lafayette campus. This shall serve as Louisiana Open II: The Archdemon's Humble Request for Camelot and Sega to Put Differences Aside and Make Shining Force IV.
Copied from the original announcement:
VCUO ‘15 will be implementing a Gaddis-style difficulty quota for answerlines, based on a 4-point scale:
1 – ACF Fall
2 – ACF Regionals
3 – ACF Nationals
4 – ++
Each packet will have approximately (4) 1’s, (8) 2’s, (6) 3’s, and (2) 4’s. This is a difficulty ceiling, not floor, so an answerline that might appear at ACF Fall can be categorized as a 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Tossups are hard-capped at 8 lines for 1’s and 7 lines for 2-4’s.
As the name implies, VCUO ‘15 is an open tournament and there are no eligibility restrictions.
Distribution:
VCUO ‘15 will consist of 15 packets. The distribution is modeled on VCUO ‘11 and is as follows:
4/4 Literature (30% American, 30% British, 25% European, 15% World)
4/4 History (25% American, 25% European, 20% World, 15% British, 15% Classical)
4/4 Science (25% Biology, 16.67% Chemistry, 25% Physics, 11.67% Math, 11.67% Earth Science, 5% Astronomy, 5% Computer Science)
3/3 Fine Arts (split evenly between Painting, Music, and Miscellaneous Arts)
2/2 R/M (split evenly between Religion and Myth)
1/1 Trash
1/1 P/SS (split evenly between Philosophy and Social Science)
1/1 G/C/GK (40% Geography, 40% Current Events, 20% Geography, Current Events, or “General Knowledge”)
Field cap:
The soft cap has been removed as of now. Hard cap is 10 teams.
Fee structure:
$90 per team
-$5 buzzer discount (limit 2 functioning buzzers)
-$10 staffer discount (I'll give as many discounts as we need staffers)
-$5 for the first 150 miles travelled according to Google maps, $5 more for every 150 miles after that. Of all players on your team, we'll take the maximum distance travelled by any player on the team and set that as your mileage.
Minimum fee: $65 per team
Side events:
We plan to play the following side events on Sunday. I'm working on getting them confirmed for the event.
CO Visual Arts
We Have Never Been Modern
CO Lit Doubles

We also need to decide if we're drafting or not.

To confirm, Tulane's bringing myself, Alec Stewart, Cara Zajac, Rissa Hall (?), and maybe a few others depending on who is around. We'd rather play as a team (or two depending on our tbd final count) but will adapt if a draft occurs

Well I'll help you out! A draft won't occur. :) I *think* we can have two Tulane teams but let me look at the current state of the tourney before I say anything.NickCahlfs wrote:To confirm, Tulane's bringing myself, Alec Stewart, Cara Zajac, Rissa Hall (?), and maybe a few others depending on who is around. Re: VCU Open Mirror at UL Lafayette (8/15)
The answer to the question of whether or not we will be playing anything on Sunday should be answered here, as well. Do you guys have any requests as far as side events are concerned?
PLAYERS, YOU SHOULD REQUEST THINGS HERE
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO PLAY
EDIT:
We Have Never Been Modern is on the Sunday slate. More coming, potentially.
CO Visual Arts and RILKE are also probably on the slate.

I don't know if me or anybody riding with me will be able to stay until Sunday, but if we do, I would be most interested in playing SHEIK or Tricon, and would also play We Have Never Been Modern.
EDIT: We will be leaving Saturday night so will not be playing Sunday side events

Readers are great and always appreciated! So yeah that would be fabulous. It would also make potential field expansion closer to being possible. I'm still looking into a better facility for the event(s).NickCahlfs wrote:Do you need readers? I'm sure some of the Tulane people would staff

I'd rather not, I'd prefer We Have Never Been Modern (or maybe SHEIK or Tricon but I honestly don't know what those are)The Ununtiable Twine wrote:I would be up for this myself.Mnemosyne wrote:I maintain my vote for CO Visual Art.

SHEIKH is an all-history tournament of difficulty somewhat higher than the advertised difficulty of VCU Open.fflman123 wrote:I'd rather not, I'd prefer We Have Never Been Modern (or maybe SHEIK or Tricon but I honestly don't know what those are)The Ununtiable Twine wrote:I would be up for this myself.Mnemosyne wrote:I maintain my vote for CO Visual Art.

We're currently at five teams. Naturally, I would like to have this tournament have an even number of teams, preferably six, or hey, even eight. If you are on a team that has not informed me of your potential attendance, please notify me soon-ish.
