LIMITLESS INDALECIO / INSANITY PRELUDE at HSNCT

Post by The Ununtiable Twine »

This is the official thread for LIMITLESS INDALECIO / INSANITY PRELUDE, a bunch of hard JRPG questions to be read at HSNCT and potentially other places if this kind of thing interests more folks. LIMITLESS INDALECIO is my work and INSANITY PRELUDE is the work of renowned JRPG enthusiast Jason Thompson.

We need a few things.

- enough rooms to run this (certainly no more than 2 or 3 will be necessarily, tough JRPG questions are by nature super niche)

- enough friendly readers to run this. I will certainly read if there is only need for one room, but let's have more than one room if at all possible.

- a time! Certainly we can find a time for this "event" - it probably won't take more than 45 minutes. The event will consist of one 20+/20 packet by myself and possibly a 20 tossup packet by Jason Thompson. Naturally, we would like to play on the questions we didn't write.

- a field! These are rather tough, so I would suggest 4-on-4 matches, at least for my packet. I suppose expressing interest in this thread is a good idea, then we can have team formation.

Fees: probably free, but feel free to tip.

If you can help with any of these things or would like to express interest in this competition, please post here. If you have formed a team, please PM me with a list of players and a ridiculous JRPG-themed team name (or you will be assigned one!). I would like to get a general idea of how many rooms and staff we need within the next week or so.

Teams:
Dylan Minarik/Rob Carson/presumably more people

Free Agents / other interested parties:
Mr Escandell (if he is available when we are reading)
Mr Raje (if on Saturday night)
Mr Wang
Mr Venkus?
Mr Thompson (on my packet)
Mr Sundberg (for Jason's packet, unless shootout happens)
Mr Lee, who is afraid that I am actually Gato and will punch him if he negs

I am playing this and am searching for teammates. You may know me as one of the guys who won the original ACFNATIONALS.

As far as time, Sunday night is a no-go because of ACRONYM, so Saturday night is my top choice.

Y'all be sure to sign up/notify me that you're coming/post in this thread/whatever. Also, Jason is 40% with INSANITY PRELUDE at last check, so there should be even more fun times.

I am not knowledgeable about JRPGs and don't really play a lot of them, however I am interested in this event and am looking for some coattails to ride. My specialties include not getting Pokemon questions despite the inordinate amount of time I've spent playing those games, final bosses that look like hitler, and Mike Bentley's walkthrough to Crazy Taxi 2.

considering there's only two packets and probably not that many people who want to play would it be easier to just run a shootout format?

There are a lot of people who want to play these questions! They just haven't posted in the thread yet, young master. My guess is that Jason wouldn't mind having a shootout on his questions. However, I would strongly prefer that at least a couple of teams form for my packet as I have written twenty bonuses that must be experienced.

I'm fine with whatever format ends up happening, but you can also play bonuses in a shootout, by just reading them to everyone. That's how we did, I think, Ryan's packet at the guerrilla RPG fest at whichever MO that was, and I'm pretty sure everyone still enjoyed it. You also have the advantage of ensuring that every bonus is read to everyone.

We'll just have to see what happens, then. I'm not at all opposed to a shootout, but let's give people a few days to trickle in and express their interest. There's a good chance that a few more people want to play and just haven't spoken up just yet. Plus we're slated to have 42/20 challenging questions this weekend, so fun will be had regardless. Okay, a few of my tossups aren't THAT challenging, but still. The bonuses make up for that, I promise.

Speaking of Ryan, is he coming to HSNCT?

Ah, I found an additional 12 JRPG tossups in my inbox. I believe these are unspoiled to non-Illinois people so we can read these after the event for the interested parties.

Actually, sorry to tell you that (if this matters at all, like you mentioned), but I probably won't be able to make this. But thanks for the potential opportunity and good luck with this event!

Is there any possibility this could happen on Friday night after scrimmages? If it runs on Saturday it will conflict with Imaginary Landscape.

I can see if I can arrive late to and only play half of Imaginary Landscape, if need be. If that doesn't work, I'll drop from one or the other. I'd obviously rather not have to, but if I'm the only one with a Saturday conflict and Friday doesn't work for other people, so it goes.

I certainly don't plan to cross schedule with Imaginary Landscape. I was talking to Eddie about perhaps running the event after Imaginary Landscape. This would make the event run past like midnight but in reality INDALECIO won't take too long so this is probably feasible. I may also be playing Imaginary Landscape, for what it's worth. (I may also be getting dinner with a friend, but we are undecided on a time for that at the moment)

*I moved a couple of tossups from this packet to my stash for CULEX in order to increase the carnage caused by this packet.

As far as I know (Jake, please confirm), the plan is to read these packets after Imaginary Landscape is over, ca. maybe 11pm?

Also, Rob and Dylan, I recommend against defeating the robot. Otherwise it's creator might turn into a skeleton and start spamming Laser on you.

This seems to be the best option. We do need a buzzer system so let's make sure we have one.

If you defeat the robot, well...just remember what happened to our dear friend Robo when he went back to the factory. Not only will QANTA's creator spam Laser on you, but poor QANTA will be beaten to death by his comrades when he goes home. Do we really want this?

Oh by the way, we still have room for another couple of people in the main room if anyone wants to play. If anyone besides those who have posted here is remotely interested in playing this, please PM me or post here on Friday so I can get another reader if need be. Of course, spectators are welcome as well. Break yourselves into teams. If you guys want to do a draft, that's fine. If you want to gang up on Dylan and Tejas to avenge your ACFNATIONALS losses, that's also fine.

Two prizes will be awarded at LIMITLESS INDALECIO.

The high scorer for the game will receive my copy of The 7th Saga for SNES.
The winner of the competition described below will receive a complete copy of Final Fantasy IV for the DS.

COMPETITION!: I want each of the participants to write down 25 things I asked about in this packet, be it in a tossup or in a bonus. The person who guesses the most correct answers will win FFIV for the DS. In the event of a two-way tie, I will give the game to the person who guesses the most correct tossup answerlines. Find me any time before the tournament begins and hand your answers in to me. If your name is currently on the list of potential competitors and you cannot make it for some reason, you may still enter the contest.

Also, I'll need to borrow someone's laptop for the reading. I'll probably ask Jason since he's also doing a reading.

EDIT: answers should consist solely of things that are in games, and not the games themselves.

To absolutely no one's surprise, Jason Thompson won The 7th Saga by posting a scoreline of 4/5/2 (shootout style). The packet came in second (8 dead!) , followed by Dylan Minarik in third with 2/0/0, Adam Escandell in fourth with 1/1/0,Rob Carson in fifth with 0/1/0, and Tejas Raje with 0/0/0. Bonuses were converted at an impressive 12.5 ppb clip. Adam Escandell won Final Fantasy IV for the DS.
