Up Late with Eric Xu Season 2: Electric Boogaloo
Alright, because it was so fun to put on last year (as well as hopefully being at least a tiny bit informative), I've decided to start up the podcast again for the 2014-15 season, with a slew of newcomers and hopefully more topics to cover! However, the help of the community would really be good here, since it's tough thinking of ideas. If you think that you have something that may be of interest to the general community, or want to participate on the podcast and are a current high school student (since I do want the podcast to be totally high school run and participated this year, barring a special episode or two), please message me privately on these boards or post in this thread. The first episode should be coming out around October-November, though it depends on scheduling and all that.
Hope everyone's looking forward to more nights where I am forced to stay up to potentially (gasp) 11 PM!

I can do a New England regional preview, if you ever want one.
Yes, there is quizbowl in New England.
I think discussing ties with administration and the school would be a good topic, since I definitely can talk about that.

Eric is perfectly capable of doing such by himself, and with less of a volume issue.

I could do a preview of the PA quizbowl circuit( I live in southeastern PA, an hour from Philly). A topic that I think might be interesting is fundraising, because money seems to be an issue for some teams. My team does some things that are remotely successful.

Yeah fundraising would be a very nice topic to get some information on.

Myself or Nirav Illango may be available to do previews on the South region.

And so it re-begins! Episode 1 on Season 2 is now up, although truncated, so I hope that you all enjoy! Comments, as always, are welcome, and apologies for the cut-off at the end, but next podcast will be better and faster and stronger and stuff.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and with that, another podcast! Sorry for the delays, but I hope you all enjoy! As always let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, hate mail, what have you, and I'll try to address it!

Episode 3 is now up! This episode features a lengthy discussion on girls in Quizbowl and the gender gap that exists in our beloved activity. As a guy, I found this discussion very interesting, and it really gave me a different perception of how some girls can see this activity a bit differently from guys, but also how they see things very similarly in a ton of other respects. Worth a listen, if you have the time! If you have other ideas that are as baller as this one, please feel free to message me or email me or whatever (that's where this idea came from!)

My internet has been really messed up these past few days. I'm planning on recording sometime this week and then releasing it the week before HSNCT. This'll be the final episode that I ever do, probably.Generating Steam Heat wrote:When is the next episode coming out?

And we're out. Hope you guys enjoy it; there's quite a lot of discussion here about nationals, including how to study, how to deal with the pressure, and how to make your school let you go! Pressing concerns for all, I'm sure.

RETRACTION: I note in the podcast that I believe that Kion You of rancho Bernardo is a sophomore. He is actually a junior.

Its too bad that it ended. I really liked the podcasts as they were informative. Is there any hope that they will be brought back?

Re: Up Late with Eric Xu Season 2: Electric Boogaloo
Thanks for the kind words! At the moment, there is no plan to bring back the podcast on a consistent basis: as a college student, it's much harder for me to stay connected with the high school circuit and to know the strengths of those who I'm reporting on. In future years, if there's interest from the community, I wouldn't mind doing a Pre-Nationals podcast to review the year in general with high schoolers who are in the know, but it's a bit too late at this point to start that project. Someone remind me next March!Hypersmart wrote:Its too bad that it ended. I really liked the podcasts as they were informative. Is there any hope that they will be brought back?
As far as the other information covered in the podcast, the existing cache of 10 episodes should provide a pretty good start for studying. Again, if there's interest, I'll consider making a few short, one-off podcasts over the summer going over specific questions or concerns shared by the community. PM me or Facebook message me if there's anything that anyone would want to hear a podcast on, and I can see if I can assemble the relevant parties to talk about it!
