Alex Wallace's Tremendous Trash Packet

Post by SpanishSpy »

Tonight I just finished my second trash packet which I have dubbed Alex Wallace's Tremendous Trash Packet, the sequel to Alex Wallace's Terrific Trash Packet that was read at Festivus.

It's 20/20 of random nonsense of no particular distribution, but I will say it tends towards the geekier side of things (being the tremendous geek I am).

I'd be willing to do Skype mirrors or other means (but for my Skype is preferable).

Any preferred time in the coming week? I can do Wednesday night after 9PM eastern without a problem - Thursday I'm not really free til 10PM eastern, and Friday is completely free after 2PM eastern. Saturday I'm occupied after 7PM and on Sunday I'm busy 11AM-1PM and 6PM to 7PM (roughly).

I would prefer an afternoon time, as nights tend to be family time in my household, but its my spring break, so I do not really have any major time restrictions schedule-wise.

How about sometime Friday afternoon (eastern time)? For something like this I reckon it would be most fun in groups.

Oops, I misunderstood this as happening next week.
Friday would not work. Any other day I'm pretty much available after 4 CDT.

I am in the same boat. It would have to be like 5-6 eastern for me to make it (start time). I could also do Sunday starting at 7-8 est (again start time) if that works better.

I have a meeting at 6 PM so 5 might be cutting it close - the meeting's usually over by 7 though.

Also something may come up Saturday - I'm unknown on that front (coincidentally it's a chance at reading this packet in person to local high schoolers).

If we start just a bit after 7 I can do it - I now also have a meeting at 9PM that I must attend.

Will you be doing another reading of this? I had a paper to write, so I unfortunately couldn't make it on Sunday.

Best would be Wednesday, either between 2 and 7 or after 9 (7-9 is Quizbowl practice).

Nothing in particular needs to be done here and now, but in the future, please keep stuff like this in the random packet announcements thread to avoid board clutter. Thanks!

I had announced there when the concept was made, and updated that thread as work progressed - this thread is for the actual coordination of readings for it is now complete.

Am I in error in making this assumption about use?

Regarding the "random announcements" thread, I think the original idea behind that thread (I created the thread, after all) was that we wouldn't get hundreds of threads basically turning into "I wrote this packet, let's play it on Skype or the IRC." However, I do agree that clogging up THAT thread with 30+ posts of "i'm free on Tuesday" would not be optimal as well. I won't speak for the moderators, but I wonder if this rule of thumb might be useful:

-if you're just saying "i wrote this packet, I will read it in the IRC at 9 PM on Tuesday," please use the other thread.
-if you think you need some coordination, you can consider starting a new thread.

However, I would also say:

-if all you're doing in the new thread, is "checking for interest," there is no need to. People who are interested will play.
-at some point, it might make the most sense just to set a time and date yourself rather than try to find a date that works for a nebulous crowd.

Sorry for jumping threads, but this is really useful as I personally unaware of how to announce to My GoT set just from a lack of experience. Thank you for this

I'd be willing to do another reading in the period of Monday to Thursday during the evenings (dependent on the specific time) - the rest of this week will be VERY busy for me.
