a Game of Thrones Set

Post by Jewish Pugilist »

Hi All,
I am almost done with a four (possibly five) packet Game of Thrones set for some Florida quizbowlers who are also fans of it. The set has 20 tossups each followed by a 10 point bonus question. It uses clues from both the books and HBO TV series. Lemme know if anyone outside the state has interest in hearing it.

I was wondering a few things:

-Will content from the novellas or The World of Ice and Fire be covered, or just the main books?
-Will there be a particular focus on either one of the show or the books?
-Will you mix hints from the show and the books into the same tossup, or will only one be dealt with at a time?

-So, for quick background, I first got into GoT a while back from playing a Crusader Kings II mod for it that pulls heavily from the likes of "the World of Ice and Fire", so It was the first material I actually learned before the show and book. I will say both the novellas and supplementary material are fair game.

-I find myself making many mixed questions, so I try to preface certain clues it with "In the books" and "in the TV series" to not confuse someone who has only read one or watched the other. The 10 point bonuses are the only ones where you may find questions from one source material, although even then I try to add in multiple source clues if I can.

Since a variety of people want to hear it, I will probably read it at ICT if people are available and willing but also on Skype on a quiet Sunday (probably the 16th of April) if that is alright with people. Also, a fun little rule is to pick a house before playing the set(the more obscure the better).

Sounds great, if you could pick a time for the skype reading that allows people on the other side of the atlantic to play as well, that would be wonderful

How does a tentative time of 1 PM Eastern work for y'all?

Unless I've got it wrong, that would make it 6PM, which is fine with me.

Yeah I just realized the 16th is easter. I could still do it but it might be a good idea to change the date.

Is this happening next Sunday or is it being moved because of Easter?

Moved because of Easter, I decided Sunday, May 7th, is probably the next best day if that is OK with people

Rad!

So Charles Hang has offered to moderate the first two rounds along with myself, which is good as it seems we have 8 to 9 people. Once he gets on Facebook, we will figure out who will be in what "room". If you have an questions feel free to send me a message on here or Facebook, or email me at [email protected].
Thanks

We played the first two packets in two preliminary rooms. We then divided everyone based on their preliminary results into upper and a lower playoff pools and played the last packet there.

I couldn't play the two preliminary packets because I playtested them, but I won the upper playoff pool. Logan Page won the lower playoff pool.

Stats are here. There were 20 point superpowers and 15 point powers. There were also negs for everyone but the last person who buzzed in incorrectly before the end of the tossup.
