Sivakumar Day Inter-Nationals

Post by A Dim-Witted Saboteur »

Considering that the anniversary of Pranav Sivakumar's dedicated state holiday (June 8) (http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/artic ... akumar-day), I am announcing a 2-packet experimental vanity set written by me (with input on astronomy from my teammates) with a distribution chosen by Pranav, linked 3-part bonuses, and superduperpowermarks: Sivakumar Day Inter-Nationals (SDI). Difficulty should be somewhere between PACE and ACF Regs. This distribution will be as follows:
2/2 Literature (1/1 Euro 1/1 World)
3/3 History (1/1 Commonwealth 1/1 World 1/1 Euro)
3/3 Meta
4/4 Fine Arts (1/1 Auditory, 2/2 visual, 1/1 combined)
4/4 Geography
4/4 Astronomy
This set will be read on skype on June 8 and in person at PACE NSC. Each site will have a field cap of 10 doubles teams. Each of 2 rooms will support 5 teams, who will then be re-seeded to play the second packet with the corresponding team from the other room on the second packet.
Signup will take place on this google sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
The field will be primarily HS, but players of all levels are welcome.

I can make that.
I an looking for a teammate, hit me up on HSQB.
I know Pranav, that is a powerful advantage.

P.S. Since the whole point of Pranav day is to celebrate his victory at a spelling bee, I suggest a 1/1 spelling distribution (NOTE: this is facetious)

P.S.S Jonah, I am so down for a Colby Burnett tournament based on "things you would learn in a Colby Burnett history class"

Edit: I'll be teaming up with Jeff Xie of Columbia for this event.

Lit, history, meta and geography? Count me in.

It's quite late for me, but it's also election night, so I'll be awake and being disproportionally jumpy.

So barring a field expansion, there's room for like 2 or 3 more people on each site. I recommend signing up now if you're interested.

you should do 3 rooms of 4 and then 4 rooms of 3 -- increases field size *and* requires less staff.

This will happen after matches end on Sunday to avoid conflicts with PACENSC and Math Monstrosity.

Due to a ton of people's flights leaving by the time this was slated to happen on Sunday, this will now happen on Saturday instead.

Also, for the skype tournament, due to a lot of interest in playing and substantially less interest in staffing, the first round will be run in groups of four, the second in groups of three.

So the first reading of this happened. Congratulations to Life is like a Hanbok of Chocolates (Will Alston/James Lasker) for winning the final match, IS-164 And the Village (William Golden/Montagu James) for getting second on a tiebreaker, A Hidehiro of Our Time (Hidehiro Anto/John Crawford) for getting third, and Revisiting the Legacy of Covfefe Annan (Thomas De Bock/Kenji Shimizu) for winning the top consolation pool. To be clear, there is a $5 per-person fee for this. I'm sorry this was only in the Facebook announcement and not this one. That was oversight on my part. If anyone wants to drop, I totally understand.

So if you're playing tonight just meet me by the elevators on the lower level after matches end. This is another link to the spreadsheet for those of you who need it https://docs.google.com/a/naperville203 ... p=drivesdk
To be clear, this is happening in the evening after matches end.

This happened again. In a harrowing final, Mike Cheyne and Eric Mukherjee defeated Dylan Minarik and Michael Borecki on the final tossup. More detailed stats coming soon.

Is there interest for a NASAT mirror of this? PM me if you're interested. I guess I'll add a column for that on this spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing, which is still being used for signup.

I'll probably read this on skype one more time for people who missed the two previous readings. Then I'll clear the set. Is there interest and what time would work for people?

It looks like Thursday is a consensus option. Unless anyone objects I'll read this at 8 Central then. Sign up via the sheet in the OP. As with all other SDI readings, this will be doubles.

SDI Reading 3: Revenge of the Sithvakumar has concluded, with the team of Andrew Wang and Tejas Raje winning, and the team of Mike Bentley and Auroni Gupta coming second. Packets will be on the archive by tomorrow. A special thanks to everyone who read, and especially Matt Lehmann and Mahria Baker for pitching in when issues arose during today's reading. Also thanks to Jake Sundberg and David Song for contributing the Astro for this set. Finally, thanks to everyone who played this for suffering through my fine arts writing. I don't think this necessitates a private forum, so just post any comments here.

Again, I can't apologize enough for the logistical issues that occurred tonight. I know a lot of people were looking forward to playing Ophir's CO packet.
