Rancho Bernardo Quizbowl is pleased to announce Bronco Bowl III on January 6, 2018, a regular difficulty high school quiz bowl tournament using the IS-168 and IS-167A sets.

Location: This tournament will take place in the Ns, Ws, and 400s Buildings at Rancho Bernardo High School @ 13010 Paseo Lucido, San Diego CA 92128. Check-in will be outside room 303. Teams may enter through both the front and back gate. A map of our campus can be found here.

Date: The tournament will take place on January 6, 2018. Check-in will begin at 8AM and the first round will start promptly at 9AM.

Registration: Teams must register through this Google form. After registration, a confirmation email will be sent out. Tournament fees should be paid at the tournament with cash or check. Please make checks out to Rancho Bernardo Quizbowl. Registration will close on December 31, 2017. Please submit rosters by January 2, 2018. There will be soft field caps of 18 teams for the varsity division and a 18 team field cap for the JV division. All other teams will be waitlisted.

UPDATE 11/30/17: The field cap for the JV division has been expanded to 18! Schools will no longer be limited to one team in the JV division.

Eligibility
All schools are eligible to compete in our varsity division.

JV Division requirements:
All members on your team must have:
-No more than two years of experience in high school
-Never been to a high school national tournament
-Won no more than three HS tournaments at the JV or Varsity level in a single academic year.
-Never scored over 100 PPG at the JV level

Sweetwater Academic League schools are ineligible to compete in our JV division due to overlap in packet content.

Pricing:
Team 1: $80
Team 2+: $70 (carries over between divisions)

Discounts:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$5 for traveling distances over 50 miles, one-way, according to Google Maps
-$10 for each competent moderator that also provides their own laptop
-$40 (new school discount) for any school composed entirely of students that have not competed at a pyramidal quiz bowl tournament prior to the 2017–18 school year

Minimum fee: $40

Food: A light breakfast will be provided. For lunch, many eateries can be found within a 15-30 minute walk (Costco, In-In-Out, Panda Express, Rubios, etc). Pizza will be provided to all staffers.

Format: A round-robin preliminary in the morning will be followed by a round-robin playoff in the afternoon. Seedings in the individual sub-brackets will be determined by the overall win-loss record. Ties across brackets will be broken by average points per bonus and ties within brackets will be broken by average points per game. Standard NAQT/ACF rules will be followed with each untimed half consisting of 10 questions. This tournament is PACE Platinum certified. The top 25% of teams will qualify for PACE NSC in June 2018 in Washington, D.C.. This tournament is also an NAQT HSNCT qualifier. The top 15% of teams will qualify for HSNCT in May 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to both top teams and top individual scorers.
