New Trier Varsity, IL (12/23/17) (WAO II & NAQT IS-171A)

Post by Stained Diviner »

The 2017 New Trier Varsity Tournament will take place on December 23. We will have an Über-Competitive Division and a Standard Division. The WAO II Set will be used in the Über-Competitive Division, and NAQT IS 171A will be used in the Standard Division.

To register for the tournament, use the attached Entry Form. To reserve spots for a team or apply to staff, contact me at [email protected] or post below. Team names must be the name of the high school that the students attend.

Because the two divisions are using different questions, and the Über-Competitive Division questions are very difficult for high school students, we are allowing all teams to register for the division of their choice. This means that there may be some very strong teams in the Standard Division. The tournament format will be determined based on the number of entries for each division. When you register, please let me know how many teams you want in each division.

This competition will follow PACE rules except there will be no bouncebacks on bonuses and 15 point powers.

The cost is $90 per team, which covers lunch for the students and coach. There is not a buzzer discount, but we expect teams to bring buzzers unless they have a good reason not to. Teams traveling long distances or who are in financial hardship can request a discount.

If you want to enter, let me know this week. After that, I'll only take teams if I have enough staff.

I have been following the private discussion forum for WAO II, and I am confident that this is a good set. The editors have been responsive to problems that existed when it was first played. If high school teams want to play a regular-difficulty college set against other high school teams, this is your chance.

We now have five Über-Competitive and 24 Standard teams. It would be good to get one more Über-Competitive team. The Standard field is closed unless at least four more teams join.

We're now at 6 and 24. I expect to stay there. We will add more Über-Competitive teams if and only if the number of teams is an even number. If somebody wants to add one team and be on a waitlist until another team adds or drops, that's fine.

We now have a 7th in the Über-Competitive Division and are hoping for an 8th. It could be you!

We now have 8 in the top division and 26 28 in the lower. I'll accept or waitlist teams based on whether or not they get us to an even number in each division.

Thanks to NAQT for posting the stats so quickly and for giving us some technical support during the tournament. Also, a big thanks to the staff listed above, who did a great job and made my job pretty easy. Also, it was great to see a lot of teams willing to compete on what is normally a vacation date.
