2018 ACF Regionals @ Toronto (2018/01/20)

Post by Calculus? »

Hello Canada and surrounding area!

The University of Toronto Academic Trivia Club is pleased to announce that it will be hosting this year's iteration of ACF Regionals, which will occur on January 20th, 2018, at Sidney Smith Hall (100 Saint George Street). The tournament will begin at 9:00 AM sharp so please be in the control room, SS 2127, by 8:30.

Registration and Fees

To register for this tournament, please fill out this form here AND email Rein at reinotsason [at] gmail [dot] com telling him how many teams, buzzers, and staffers you're bringing and any further discounts you'd like to claim.

All payment will be done through ACF. Expect them to get in touch with you regarding payment, and please contact them with any questions about that.

Base fee: $135
-$5 per functional buzzer set
-$10 per functional staffer
-$60 shorthanded discount (teams of 1 or 2 players)
-$100 new to quizbowl discount

"New to quizbowl" discount is intended for schools that did not send a team to any regular collegiate academic tournament (exclusively Novice tournaments do not count) since September 2016, and have no one on the team(s) claiming this discount who played those tournaments for another school.

Pack submission

Any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament* (either as a college student or as a high school student) prior to September 1, 2016 is required to submit a half-packet. House teams from host schools, as well as teams composed of people who have not played regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournaments prior to September 1, 2016, are not required to submit a half-packet, but may choose to do so by the no penalty deadline (December 10th), for a -$50 discount. More info about this can be found here.

Rein Otsason is now the TD of this tournament. All contact info here has been changed to his. You don't need to re-communicate to him anything you've already told me re: registrations, etc. as I will pass the info on.

In the logistics email, I wrote: Dear all,

This is your logistics email for ACF Regionals this weekend. We are excited to be hosting this tournament once again, and look forward to seeing you this weekend. Please forward this email to at least one member of each team playing this weekend, so that everyone has the required information.

Critical Information

The tournament will be hosted in Sidney Smith Hall (100 St George St.) at the University of Toronto. The control room is 2127, and you should arrive by 8:30 am. Games will start promptly at 9 am. You know what this means.

Transportation

There are no TTC closures planned for this weekend. The closest TTC station is St George station.

There are no planned major road closures Saturday morning. Do note that King St between Bathurst and Jarvis is now closed to through traffic due to the King St Transit Pilot Project.

There is no marathon on Saturday.

There is convenient parking at the Rotman building (107 St George St.), which is a flat $10 after 8 am.

Food

As usual, there are many food options near the university. Please note, however, that most on-campus locations are closed on the weekend, and so should not be relied upon. There are many options for coffee, tea, and similar breakfast requirements on both Bloor and College. Please avail yourselves of them before you arrive. The tournament will not be delayed due to a last minute coffee run.

You will have an hour for lunch, as usual. The exact start time for lunch will be announced at the tournament, adjusted as required. We have many rounds to get through on Saturday, so please make sure to eat enough for breakfast in case lunch begins later than you may like.

Schedule

Please find attached.

Contact

For day-of issues, you may contact me, your tournament director, at [REDACTED].
