Feel free to join and add a few of the schools as a "Place." Use local.google.com to find out zip codes. I've done TJ and all the Alabama schools so far.

Just entered Pensacola, Shanghai American (luckily it didn't unzoom next time and mess up the view), and all the Texas schools. Good to see Cave Spring is going. Too bad more Illinois schools haven't signed up.

Need advice
We won our state tournament last weekend and I was too slow in registering after waiting for a go-ahead from my school administration. So now my team is # 130 in a 128 field. What are our chances of actually getting to go and compete? I actually reserved hotel rooms but now I'm in a quandary about airline tickets-- and I actually am getting offers of financial support to help the kids go. I'm afraid if I wait too long ticket prices will double, but of course if I buy tickets and no spots open up I won't be able to get a refund. Anybody else out there ever dealt with this situation?

Re: Need advice
My suggestion would be to cut your losses on NAQT and go to PACE. You'll still get to go to a National Championship Tournament on good pyramidal questions, and they are actually needing more teams.hardeecoach wrote:We won our state tournament last weekend and I was too slow in registering after waiting for a go-ahead from my school administration. That's my Plan B. My kids were ecited about Chicago, though. I may try for both and cross my fingers.

If you do come to PACE, let me know as soon as possible. I have to lock down the number of housing and game rooms we're using really soon.

If you can afford to travel to both, consider being a standby team at NAQT. If a spot opens, you're in, and if it doesn't, the team scores/times/etc., and in return, you guys get the questions from the tournament plus NAQT "gift certificates," if you want to call it that. I was looking into it for a while, until we went 2-4 at NAQT state.

That's very interesting. That seems like a great prize for the national championship team. I think this will add a lot of draw to the NAQT HSNCT for teams hoping to win a trip to Japan; although, part of the reason a lot of teams play Chip is because they know they won't win NAQT HSNCT anyway .
My parents happen to be going to Tokyo today, I'll have them try to get a recording of this show on "NTV" which I could put online... not that I'd understand any of it.

It seems that the most obvious question is: "In what language will this competition take place?" I doubt even last year's TJ team was fluent in Japanese....

NAC updates
Hey how about some updates or highlights from day 1? Not all of us are so lucky to be there!! The only team I know about is Shanghai going 7-3.

No team went undefeated during prelims. Ranked 1st after prelims is Grosse Point of...somwhere? (9-1). Pregame favorites RM, State College, and Gov in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, all 8-2, and TJ A number 9 at 7-3. 48 of 128 teams went 6-4 or better to make the double-elimination playoffs. I didn't have time after Jeopardy callbacks to check the rankings much. Hopefully someone else can fill in some more...with any luck there will be something up on the website this evening.

My team went a disappointing 4-6... missing our #2 guy apparently hurt more than expected...
Still had a great time in Chicago, and got to meet many of the people I've only talked to over the internet, so I still had a great time.
Good luck to all those competing in the playoffs tomorrow, my money is still on RM.
