Sun God Invitational Playtest Mirror (9/29/2018)

Post by naan/steak-holding toll »

This is the announcement for the playtest mirror of 2018's Sun God Invitational, a medium-difficulty tournament.

Please indicate interest and form teams on the following spreadsheet. We are hoping to run a tournament of 8 to 10 rounds and attract participants of a wide range of skill levels and experience to ensure our tournament accomplishes its goals for many different players.

I've attached a poll to ask whether participants would prefer to play on Skype or Discord. We will probably start this tournament at 10 AM Eastern / 7 AM Pacific, with the optimistic goal of finishing by 6 PM Eastern.

EDITS:

1) Temporary field cap will be set at 10 teams
2) Consistent with past playtest mirrors I've run, the fee will be $15 per player to participate. If you'd like to officially register a team to guarantee a spot in the field, just send me a PM indicating who's on your team. You must have at least three players on your team to register and lock in a spot

Payment Options:

1) Venmo @walston
2) Paypal to william.t.alston [at] gmail [dot] com (please only use this if you have a PayPal account)

Registered Teams:

McGill
Coates / Zhou / Chonai / Hothem

Seeking teammates for this, I guess. I've very high-variance these days but can still get tossups.

If anyone wants a mediocre player who can get things in physics/math/CS and buzz randomly on lit/music/art/thought/chem, hit me up!

Seems like the Discord option is settled. I'll actually prepare this time and won't be as much of an incompetent doofus with the software as before.

Looking for teammates. I know CS/math pretty well and can buzz on everything else except history/trash. Feel free to PM me if interested.

It seems like we've got just about the right number of folks for an eight-team mirror, so I'm going to re-cap things at that for now, since that will let us playtest all ten prelims packet we'll have prepared. We will also have two finals packets ready for this mirror.

For those concerned about the fact that the set won't be finished: none of our mirrors are until November; our main goal is to make sure we are on point with difficulty (ideally about halfway between EFT and last year's Regionals) and writing fresh, creative stuff.

I've assigned remaining free agents to teams. We'll close the field at 8, but if there are more than 32 players, you can ask permission to play as a fifth player on an existing team.

We'll aim to start at 10AM EST sharp on Saturday and run 10 rounds, with a break after 5 rounds of prelims.

My bad on not doing this before, but I've added a team contact field to the original spreadsheet. If you don't put one, I'll just email whatever address(es) I have on file for team members.

Can moderators get together tonight and test that they can hear each other when speaking? Microphone problems with moderators are some of the biggest causes for time delays in Discord tournaments so getting everything figured out ahead of time would help us stay on time.

Due to a miscommunication on my end, the logistics email I drafted earlier today wasn't sent out to all the teams. Should be sent out now.

My laptop sound is dead, rather than trying all day to fix it I'm just gonna call it quits so if someone else wants to play get in touch with the other members of my team. I already paid Will so don't worry about it.
