FSNL Season Five

Post by OctagonJoe »

Fantasy Saturday Night Live Season Five will be brought to you again here on the HSQB forums. This season is being sponsored by last year's CO Trash. Last year's CO Trash: You know, the one from last year.

Scoring for FSNL is the same as it was for last season, Season Four. Appearing in a sketch earns a player 1 point. Having a prominent role in that sketch earns that player an additional 2 points, for a total of 3 points. If the role is a recurring character (not a real-life person like Hillary Clinton, but a character specific to the show), another 2 points get added on for a total of 5 points, although it is possible to be a non-prominent recurring character for 3 points. There are also up to 4 points available for saying, "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!" If one player says it alone, that player gets 4 points. Two people saying it splits it into 2 points each, three or four into 1 point each, and more than four means no one gets points.

The teams will be as they have always been. I will be the manager of Team Gehring, the reigning champion. Mike Cheyne will be the manager of Team Cheyne, two-time champions of the league. And Dan Puma will manage Maryland B, the champion of Season Two. Each week, the three of us will draft rosters, with the draft order determined by the previous week's results. RoboBo will receive the four undrafted players each week, and any manager whose team loses to RoboBo will feel intense shame.

Andrew Wang (to be confused neither with Andy Wang nor with Andrew Wang) will be providing FFSNL updates.

This year's fantasy FSNL league consists of myself and Tejas Raje. A rotisserie draft was held and the results were as follows, with team Wang having the first pick.

1. Mike Cheyne to Wang
2/3. Carsten and Maryland B to Tejas
4. Robot Matt Bollinger to team Wang

Mike informed me that his team's performance has not been up to snuff and I am a doofus.

Anyways scoring will probably be just based on placemento r osmething

Robot Matt Bollinger
Michael Che -- 3 points
Leslie Jones -- 2 points
Colin Jost -- 3 points
Kyle Mooney -- 8 points
16 points

Most Valuable Player -- Pete Davidson
Pete Davidson had an interesting summer, and now he's scoring points. But can Dan Puma's favorite pick maintain this hot start?

Most Improved Player -- Kyle Mooney
Kyle Mooney did not have a good season last year, but maybe it's time for a Mooneyssance.

Least Valuable Player -- Kenan Thompson
Possibly scared off by the Kanye circus, Kenan Thompson barely showed up for this episode. Is SNL's longest-tenured player finally over the hill, or will he continue to be a top scorer as in seasons past?

Most Valuable Player -- Maryland B
In a shocking turn of events, Maryland B managed to hold off on embarrassing themselves for one week.

Most Improved Player -- None
Can't improve when you're starting from zero.

Least Valuable Player -- SNL
I watched the opening with Matt Damon, which dragged on way too long and was not especially amusing. Why can't SNL just make do with the boring generic dudes on the roster instead of dragging one in? I don't think I will be watching this show again.

Colin Jost -- 3 points
Kyle Mooney -- 5 points
Melissa Villasenor -- 2 points

Most Valuable Player -- Kate McKinnon
Team Gehring was up 1 point on Team Cheyne going into the final sketch, but Kate McKinnon's 5-point performance as recurring character Debette Goldry put the game away and also made an underwhelming night for McKinnon into a solid showing.

Most Improved Player -- Kenan Thompson
Kenan Thompson actually showed up this week. Good for him.

Least Valuable Player -- Chris Redd
Isaac Hirsch's close personal friend Chris Redd nearly achieved prominence in one sketch but got a pity point in another, earning a measly 2 points. Maybe Isaac can explain to Redd how important prominence and recurring characters are to fantasy scoring.

FFSNL Week Two Stats

Standings
Team Record Points scored
Team Wang 0-2 82
Team Raje 2-0 109

Team Wang
Team Cheyne -- 25 points
Robot Matt Bollinger -- 13 points
38 points

Team Raje
Team Gehring -- 30 points
Maryland B -- 23 points
53 points

Most Valuable Player -- Team Gehring
After the ignominy of finishing in third place in Week One, Carsten managed to screw up less this time.

Most Improved Player -- Team Gehring
So far, #1 overall pick Team Cheyne has rewarded Andrew's faith in him by scoring the most total points, but it's hard to win Most Improved when you do that.

Least Valuable Human Player -- Maryland B
The reason that this team is called Maryland B and not Team Puma is because this team observes an orderly line of succession. When Saturday night came and no picks had been submitted by Maryland B, it fell to Maryland legend Chris Manners to make a hurried succession of picks, and by Chris Manners I mean me. I haven't seen a full episode of SNL in four years so this didn't work out.

Week Three Stats

Standings
Team Record Points scored
Team Cheyne 1-2-0-0 78
Team Gehring 1-1-1-0 76
Maryland B 1-0-2-0 79
Robot Matt Bollinger 0-0-0-3 41

Team Gehring

Maryland B
Kate McKinnon -- 4 points
Pete Davidson -- 4 points
Aidy Bryant -- 4 points
Chris Redd -- 10 points
22 points

Robot Matt Bollinger
Michael Che -- 3 points
Colin Jost -- 3 points
Ego Nwodim -- 4 points
Melissa Villasenor -- 2 points
12 points

Most Valuable Player -- Kenan Thompson
Kenan Thompson has progressed from LVP to MIP to MVP over the first three weeks. It's not hard to be MVP when you are prominent in four sketches, including a very unnecessary reappearance of recurring character Treece Henderson.

Most Improved Player -- Chris Redd
Chris Redd is trying to copy Kenan's arc by becoming MIP the week after being LVP (and maybe he'll be Week Four's MVP to complete the progression). Perhaps his close personal friend Isaac Hirsch managed to give him the information I mentioned last week. Or maybe playing Kanye and getting some LFNY points just simplifies things.

Least Valuable Player -- Mikey Day
In a week when Cecily Strong scored only 1 point, Mikey Day somehow managed to outperform her at underperforming. Day did briefly appear in a still image during one sketch (and maybe he played the gator in "Bayou Benny's Liberal Lagniappe"), but he otherwise seems to have taken the week off.

Melissa Villasenor -- 5 points

Most Valuable Player -- Kenan Thompson
Kenan Thompson repeats as the MVP after appearing in nearly every sketch. Perhaps this truly is his farewell season.

Most Improved Player -- Kate McKinnon
After a disappointing start to the season, Kate McKinnon finally came out strong with a 7-point cold open. She didn't do a ton after that, but it was enough.

Least Valuable Player -- Chris Redd
Coming off a nice 10-point showing, Chris Redd went back to obscurity, popping in only briefly for one pretaped sketch. He will need to do more if he wants to avoid being relegated to RoboBo's team.

Ego Nwodim -- 1 point
Chris Redd -- 3 points

Most Valuable Player -- Kate McKinnon
For the second time this season (and the second time for Maryland B), Kate McKinnon got off to a strong start with a prominent Cold Open role and a solo "Live from New York." She sprinkled in some other appearances later in the show (including a bit of literal corpsing), but the CO was where she made her mark.

Most Improved Player -- Maryland B
None of the players did much improving, but Maryland B got much better production this week compared to the previous one.

Least Valuable Player -- Kyle Mooney
Kyle Mooney was held out as a precaution after he asked to be traded. Lorne Michaels is currently trying to figure out the market value for Mooney, who may have fetched a higher return a few seasons ago.

Kate McKinnon showed up a lot, so she once again takes home the MVP award.

Most Improved Player -- Kyle Mooney
After putting up a fat goose egg last week, Kyle Mooney really showed out this week by scoring 1 point.

Least Valuable Player -- Kyle Mooney
Unfortunately, 1 point is terrible and Kyle Mooney should feel terrible.

Most Valuable Player -- Mikey Day
Mikey Day narrowly edges out Kenan Thompson as this week's MVP. Day showed up all over the place and managed to have a prominent role in four sketches.

Most Improved Player -- Alex Moffat
After some cold weeks, Alex Moffat bounced back, starting with a nice 5-point Cold Open. Moffat slowed down over the course of the night, but he still made a number of short appearances to bolster his score.

Least Valuable Player -- Kate McKinnon
A very poor showing from Kate McKinnon. But maybe she got screwed over by Michael Che taking one of the Weekend Update feature slots.

Most Valuable Player -- Cecily Strong
I guess? I mean, no one really had a big week, so Cecily Strong did enough.

Most Improved Player -- Kate McKinnon
It feels weird to see Kate McKinnon here, especially since she is currently tied for the highest point total in the league. But after a rough previous week, McKinnon scored closer to her average, which is enough to be MIP this time.

Least Valuable Player -- Pete Davidson
It was good to see Pete Davidson introduce the musical guest, but he understandably didn't provide much scoring.

Ego Nwodim -- 3 points
Chris Redd -- 2 points
13 points

Most Valuable Player -- Kenan Thompson
Kenan Thompson was almost literally in every sketch. He also got to share a LFNY and have a recurring character, so he was raking in the points.

Most Improved Player -- Pete Davidson
After an episode where Pete Davidson was barely seen, he came back with a vengeance (do not accept or prompt on "revenge") this week. Like Kenan Thompson, Davidson got to share a LFNY and have a recurring character, but he also got to team up with John Mulaney in a WU appearance.

Least Valuable Player -- Naveed Chowdhury
Dan Puma gave Naveed Chowdhury one job, and that job was to draft Pete Davidson. Naveed did not draft Pete Davidson.

Here are the stats from last night's season finale. Sorry I forgot to post last week's stats.

Week Twenty-One Stats

Standings
Team Record Points scored
Team Cheyne 8-8-5-0 605
Team Gehring 5-11-5-0 597
Maryland B 8-2-11-0 591
Robot Matt Bollinger 0-0-0-21 272

Team Gehring

26 points

Team Cheyne

Kyle Mooney -- 6 points
Melissa Villasenor -- 4 points
24 points

Maryland B
Kenan Thompson -- 8 points
Aidy Bryant -- 13 points
Pete Davidson -- 6 points
Leslie Jones -- 9 points
36 points

Robot Matt Bollinger
Michael Che -- 3 points
Colin Jost -- 3 points
Ego Nwodim -- 1 point
Chris Redd -- 1 point
8 points

Most Valuable Player -- Cecily Strong
Cecily Strong was everywhere in last night's episode, and she often had a prominent role. Unfortunately, her teammates were not inspired by her performance, so she didn't bring home a W for Team Gehring.

Most Improved Player -- Aidy Bryant
After appearing only twice in last week's episode, Aidy Bryant had a bit more of an impact on last night's episode. She was part of a balanced Maryland B effort to get the win at the end of an otherwise dismal season for the squad.

Least Valuable Player -- Alex Moffat
Alex Moffat reached his 100th point this season early on in the Cold Open of last night's episode. Unfortunately, he then did not appear for the rest of the episode.

Final Player Stats
Kenan Thompson 233 points
Kate McKinnon 196 points
Cecily Strong 190 points
Beck Bennett 168 points
Aidy Bryant 165 points
Mikey Day 153 points

Congrats to Mike Cheyne on winning another season of FSNL, his third in five opportunities.

Congrats also to Kenan Thompson, who takes home the scoring title at what is looking to be a very promising start to his SNL career.

I'm sure Tejas, Naveed, or Andrew will be posting FFSNL stats in the near future.

The first thing I want to be done, is to get those pieces of crap out of this thread. Don't just get them out of this thread, get them out of the FSNL because I've proved son, without a shadow of a doubt, they ain't got what it takes anymore! They sit there and they talk about Kenan, and you talk about Kate, and it didn’t get them anywhere. Talk about your Weekend Update, talk about Mike Che…
