Secret Mount Vinokurov - HSQB's Secret Santa - Last Day to Sign Up!

Post by AKKOLADE »

This is our twelfth year of "Secret Santa," named Secret Mount Vinokurov after everyone's favorite formerly really angry quiz bowler.

This is open to everyone on the forums. If you're under 18, get your parent(s)/guardian(s)'s permission to participate.

There are only three rules:

* Buy your partner a gift, preferably costing no more than $20. Make sure it's a good present; "comedy" bad presents are, almost always, just terrible presents.
* If you sign up, give your partner a gift. Failure to do so will result in open mocking of you.
* Don't give your partner an inappropriate gift. This is a site that is, in large part, aimed towards high schoolers. Don't be stupid.

When you sign up, include 3 to 5 presents you'd like - I'm going to advise that you be somewhat general with this. "Video games" isn't too useful; "PS4 games" is better; "PS4 action RPGs" is also better. I'd say "Fallout 4" is less than optimal, because of possible issues with this and the lack of creativity for which it allows.

If, for some reason, you don't want to be partnered with a person you really don't like, please mention it in the sign-up form.

The form to sign up is: https://goo.gl/forms/dwV8si2yAp0d98yr2

In the style of years past, if you would like to share a funny holiday story while making your post, you are free to do so (though not required by any means). Alternately, you could write a brief verse on holidays, in the manner of some respectable poet. This is currently in the high school section, so keep that in mind.

Signups will be open until December 3rd 11:59, following which assignments will be emailed and you'll have three weeks to purchase and send a gift before the 25th.

That's it! Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas/Happy Hannukah/Happy Kwanzaa/Happy Festivus/Happy Decemberween!

Everyone should have received info on their partner by now!

There are a couple of people who sent me incomplete mailing addresses; if you received an email from me asking for your info separate from your SMV partner's info, please get back to me ASAP so I can give your gift-giver the correct info.

Thanks for participating!

Just ordered. My giftee should be getting their gifts in three packages, because they were ordered from different sellers on Amazon. For what it's worth, the part that is expected to arrive last was somewhat of a joke (but still something I hope my giftee finds interesting -- and I wouldn't have included it otherwise / without also giving a serious gift!)

Amazon says my gift was delivered about a week ago, but I'm guessing my recipient gave me their home address and hasn't gotten home for winter break yet.

Whoever got me a copy of the Rukhnama because I asked for "a book by a non-European author that I don't own": you're very funny. I already own one.
EDIT: Also thanks for A Grain of Wheat, Conor!

Oh no!

I was hoping that would arrive last -- that was the "joke" gift referenced above. You're also getting another book by a non-European author (and another thing.)

I got a box of Frango mints, some Christmas socks, and a copy of Kafka on the Shore! Thanks, Secret Santa! I'm bringing the socks to my family's house so I can wear them while we open presents tomorrow. =)
