Governor’s School Invitational (GSin) II - Richmond, VA (12/14/19)

Post by Jλamb »

The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies is pleased to announce the 2019 Governor’s School Invitational (GSin) II. The tournament, which will now use the 2019 Regular Academic Fall Tournament (RAFT), will take place at Maggie Walker on Saturday, December 14, 2019. A post below will be periodically updated as the field grows. If you have any comments or questions, please email us at [email protected] or post below.

GSin II is now a platinum qualifier for the 2020 PACE NSC, meaning that the top 25% of teams (rounded to the nearest whole number) will qualify for the 2020 National Scholastic Championship on the weekend of June 6-7, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare.

Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 9 games. Teams can have a maximum of six players, four of which may play at a time. Substitutions are allowed at the half. If you plan on bringing more than six players, please register a second team.

Location
The tournament will take place at Maggie L. Walker Governor's School, which is located at 1000 N. Lombardy Street, Richmond, VA 23220. Parking will be in the school lot, and the school should be accessed through the Elizabeth Street entrance.

Question Set
Written by experienced high school and collegiate quizbowlers from various programs, the 2019 Regular Academic Fall Tournament (RAFT) will be used at GSin II. As the set’s name suggests, its target difficulty is high school regular. The distribution and other information can be found on this forum thread.

Registration (NOTE: All teams registered moving forward will be placed on the waitlist. I will notify all waitlisted teams of our ability to accommodate them by December 6, 2019 and immediately issue new or corrected invoices.)
The registration deadline is December 11, 2019.
Please complete this Google Form to register. If you need to update your registration status, please submit the form again. If you would like to cancel your school's registration or have any questions or clarifications concerning your registration, shoot us an email at [email protected]
On the day of the tournament, check-in will begin at 8 am. The tournament should conclude no later than 5 p.m.

Fee Structure
Base fee per team: $70
Functional Buzzer Discount: $5
Travel Discount (per 150 miles traveled one-way): $10
Staff Discount (please only volunteer a competent staffer): $10
Minimum fee: $45
Fees can be payed by check or in cash. Preferably, payment will be made during registration on the day of the tournament, but you may email us to make other arrangements if necessary.

Food
Neither lunch nor breakfast will be provided to teams at this year's GSin. There are many excellent eateries in the vicinity of Maggie Walker, and we would be happy to provide you with a list of options for lunch upon request.

We hope to see you in December! Please share this with any teams you think may be interested and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments.
