NAQT Collegiate Novice @ UChicago (10/12/2019)

Post by benmillerbenmiller »

I am very pleased to announce that the University of Chicago will be hosting a mirror of NAQT Collegiate Novice on October 12. I will be directing this, so please direct any questions to Ben Miller at [email protected].

Cost

$15 per person (so $60 for a full-strength team)
Buzzers (with at least eight functional buzzers): –$5 per system
Travel: -$10 per 200 miles traveled one way
New Team: -$10/team if your school did not attend any tournaments in the 2018/19 year

Minimum fee is $30/team.

Registration

To register, please email Ben Miller at [email protected] by September 29. The field will be capped at 20 teams.

Eligibility

There are no formal eligibility requirements for this event. While all college teams can attend, this set is designed for players with limited experience with college quizbowl. If you are not sure whether this event is right for you or your team, please consult Eric Xu's guidelines for novice eligibility outlined in this thread or contact me at [email protected].

Purdue is looking forward to sending three teams of newbies to this. What's the field look like outside of teams from West Lafayette? ;)

Sorry for the delay in posting a field update. We currently have signups from Lake Land College, Purdue, UIC, Loyola Chicago, Northwestern, Bradley University, Valparaiso, Notre Dame, Illinois, Wisconsin, Beloit College, and Kansas State, plus a number of house teams, in total 18-20. I am still finalizing how many UChicago teams we will have, but once that is settled I will have a complete picture of the field to share by mid-day tomorrow.

Edit: Fixed my omission of Beloit College from the list

Will staffers need to bring laptops?

We will be using electronic packets, so staffers should definitely bring laptops (and chargers!).

Thank you to everyone who played and staffed this event, and congratulations to Illinois for winning it! Full stats have been dutifully compiled and posted by Matthew Lehmann, and you can find them here. I hope to see many of you at Chicago's mirror of ACF Fall on November 2!
