Philly Citywide Novice Opener 2019

Post by shanhogan »

Carver E&S is hosting the first ever Philadelphia City Novice Opener. All high schools residing in Philadelphia County are invited and new teams are encouraged to attend! No experience is required!! This is a fun way for new (or less experienced) players to build some skills and join the QB community.

Schools must be located within Philadelphia County to register.

Tournament Details:
Date: Saturday 11/2/19
Location: G.W. Carver H.S. of Engineering and Science
Time: Registration will be from 8:00-8:30am. Tournament meeting will take place at 8:30 with rounds following immediately afterwards. The official schedule will depend on the number of teams that register. That said, lunch will likely take place after 4-5 rounds (likely around 11:30) and the tournament should wrap up by 5:00pm (hopefully sooner.)
Player Qualifications: Please note that we ask you do not roster any players that have scored 25 ppg (points per game) or more. This is a novice event and the aim is to give newer teams and players some exposure to quizbowl. Feel free to email me ([email protected]) if you have a question about rostering a particular player.

SET: SCOP 10

Tournament Fees
$70 for each initial team from a school, $60 for each additional team from a school
-$10 per working lockout buzzer system brought
-$15 per experienced moderator brought
$50 per school minimum
***NOTE: If your school is a public school in Philadelphia, the SDP will cover your registration costs, please contact me for details***

To Register, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/aMZ1AA8QLYt1sWar8

You can email me with any questions or concerns.

Field update as of 10/14/19:

School (Teams/Buzzers/Moderators)
Bodine (2/1/0)
Rush (2/1/0)
Franklin Towne Charter (1/0/0)
TOTALS: (5/2/0)

The goal is to hit 12 teams, so if you're on the fence about quizbowl, remember that this is a super accessible first tournament. Carver will find a way to fill out the extra slots in a pinch, but we'd much rather have you join us!

Brand new teams are welcome...you need zero experience to try this out. In fact, that's why we're having this tournament, to bring QB to new people in new schools. Come nerd out with us! It'll be awesome!
