SnowCAT at Carleton College (2/1/2020, IS-188)

Post by nk0713 »

Hello!

I am pleased to announce that Carleton College will be hosting our annual high school tournament, SnowCAT, on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 in scenic Northfield, Minnesota! We will hold this tournament in Boliou Hall, Laird Hall, and the Center for Math and Computing (CMC).

Here is the fee structure for our tournament:

Base fee: $90 per team
-$5 for a working quiz bowl buzzer system
-$20 per each moderator provided
-$50 for teams new to quiz bowl (MN Knowledge Bowl does not count — if you have only played Knowledge Bowl before you will still receive this discount)
-$10 for traveling over 100 miles to reach the tournament

If, for whatever reason, you can't pay this, email me at the address below and we can renegotiate a lower fee.

Nationals Qualification: The top 15% of schools will qualify for NAQT's HSNCT, to be held over Memorial Day weekend in Atlanta.
We now have Platinum certification from PACE, meaning the top 25% of the field will qualify for the NSC, to be held June 6-7th near Chicago, IL.

We are currently instituting a cap of 18 teams, but will likely be able to expand that depending on our staffer situation. In addition, there will be a cap of 4 teams registered per school, with additional teams being placed on a wait list. We anticipate being able to accept more teams.

Teams can register at any point up until January 25th through NAQT's website at this URL: https://www.naqt.com/go/register/11341
Payment: We cannot and will not accept money orders, PayPal, or credit cards. If you need an invoice, please email me. Checks should be made out to "Carleton Academic Quiz Team".

Lunch: There are many good options along Division St. and Rt. 3, both a short walk from campus.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at kaushikkarnATcarletonDOTedu.

Good luck in your seasons, and we look forward to seeing you in February!

We are now starting a waitlist. We also have received Platinum certification from PACE, meaning the top 25% of the field (5 of 18 or 20, 6 if we get to more than 20) will qualify for the NSC, to be held June 6-7th, 2020 near Chicago, IL.

This tournament happened with 16 teams. A special shoutout to Carsten Gehring, Lucas Pham, Owen Young, and Julie Retza for coming in and providing outside staffing. Wayzata A won the tournament, with Eden Prairie A in 2nd and Wayzata B in 3rd; all three teams should get HSNCT and NSC invitations. Eden Prairie B got the last NSC bid; St. Paul Academy qualified to the Small School National Championship (Open Division), and Crivitz A qualified to the Small School National Championship (Traditional Public Schools Division). Complete stats are at the link below.
