This year, Del Norte Quizbowl will proudly be hosting our THIRD annual Del Norte Edgehog (DNE III) Winter Tournament on January 25, 2020. It is a two-division tournament and will use BLAST for the Varsity division and IS-191A for JV. The tournament is an NSC Gold qualifier. IMPORTANT TIMES: Check-in will begin at 8:15, and rounds will start at 9:00. There will be an all-teams meeting around 8:50, where the brackets will be shared. The tournament should end before 5:00.

LOCATION: This tournament will take place in J and G buildings at Del Norte High School (16601 Nighthawk Ln, San Diego, CA 92127). Check-in for Varsity will be in R501 and check-in for JV will be in R502. The check-in rooms are in the very back of the school. ELIGIBILITY: Players with a 50+ ppg at a JV tournament, 30+ ppg at a Varsity tournament, or 10+ ppg at a high school nationals tournament will not be eligible to play in the JV division. In addition, all members on the team must not have won more than three (3) tournaments in a single school year at the JV or varsity level. Player eligibility may be subject to the tournament director’s discretion.

Registration will end on 1/23, two days before the tournament date. All teams registering after this deadline will be waitlisted. An email will be sent 1 week before the tournament, confirming your registration, updating all teams (including teams taken off the waitlist), and including an invoice.

There will be a 32-team field cap for the tournament, with 16 per division. Schools will be limited to registering three teams each across both divisions, with any additional teams being put on the waitlist.

PRICING: For returning schools:
$90 for the first team
$80 for each team thereafter

Payment may be provided by cash or check (this will be double-checked and confirmed when logistics are sent). However, if you sign up before 1/18, a discount of $10 per team will be provided. All middle school teams will start at $80, with subsequent teams at $70, before the discounts apply.

Teams of more than 6 players will not be accepted for both new and returning teams.

ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS:
- $5 per working buzzer system (for at least eight players)
- $10 per moderator that provides their own laptop or tablet
- $5 per 50 miles traveled one-way per team, calculated using Google Maps from your school to Del Norte.
-$40 for any new school composed entirely of students who have not competed at a Quizbowl tournament during the 2018-2019 school year.

FOOD: There are a couple plazas nearby (including the 4S Commons), with restaurants such as Board & Brew, Wendy’s, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and Chipotle. Light breakfast will be provided.

FORMAT: Teams will be allowed to have up to 6 players, but only 4 players can play at one time. Teams with more than 6 players will be asked to split into two teams. Teams will only be allowed to make substitutions at halftime.
We will be using official NAQT rules, with the exception that matches will be run as untimed halves of ten questions each. In addition, ACF rules will be followed regarding timing. A preliminary round robin in the morning will be followed by round robin playoffs in the afternoon based on win-loss records. Ties will be resolved on the basis of points per game (PPG) within brackets, and ties across different brackets will be resolved on the basis of win-loss records and points per bonus (PPB).
