Not to be rude, but what exactly does this mean? Also, I know it has been a few years since UGA hosted something, so feel free to reach out to me ([email protected]) if you have any questions about TDing! I'm sure there are others in the region who would be happy to help as well.

Hello,

Here is the updated field:

Alabama (x2)
Auburn (x2)
UAB (TBD)
Georgia Tech
Emory
Georgia (as needed)

We have also updated the format in response to feedback. We will either play a six-team or eight-team format (with house teams provided as needed). If we have six teams, we will play a double round robin with an advantaged final if necessary. If we have eight teams, we will play a round robin, re-bracket into two groups of four, and then play another round robin within each group, with an advantaged final if necessary.

In either case, every team is guaranteed 10 games.

A preliminary logistics email will be sent out soon.

Thanks!

Hello,

The field as it stands from the writing of this post is:
Alabama (2 teams, 1 buzzers, 0 staffers)
Auburn (2 teams, 1 buzzers, 0 staffers)
Georgia (1 team, 2 buzzers, staffers as needed)
Georgia Tech (1 team, 2 buzzers, 0 staffers)
Emory (1 team, 0 buzzers, 2 staffers)
University of Alabama – Birmingham (1 team unconfirmed)

The tournament will be held in the Zell B. Miller Learning Center (48 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30602). Registration will begin at 7:00am EST in room 147 on the first floor. Please anticipate arriving at the tournament building before 8:15am EST. A staffer/reader meeting will be held at 8:00am EST. The tournament will begin promptly at 8:30am EST. Assuming eight teams participate, at an estimate of 50 minutes per round, lunch should occur between 2:20pm and 3:20pm. Finals, closing remarks and awards should occur around 6:00pm, with book prizes being handed out to the top five players from the tournament.

If you bring a staffer, please ensure that your staffer has a laptop with a charger.

The format of the tournament will depend on the number of teams participating. Regardless of the number of teams, we will hold a round-robin style preliminaries. However,
- if six teams are participating, our finals will be another round-robin, with an advantage final if necessary
- if eight teams are participating, our finals will be a split-field round-robin (i.e., two four-team round-robins), with an advantage final if necessary.
Lunch will be held after the preliminary rounds. Nearby options for lunch include the Bulldog Café in the Tate Student Center located right next to the tournament building (which includes Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express, and the Niche Pizza) or Bolton Dining Commons located across the street (buffet style dining hall, entry into which is $11.25). Vending machines are also available on each floor of the tournament building.

Fees:
$125 per team
-$10 per working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)
-$10 per staffer
-$10 if traveling more 200 miles (distance between campuses as determined by Google Maps; once per school)

Invoices regarding the final cost of the tournament will be after confirmation of attendance. Please bring payment with you the morning of the tournament (in cash or check made out to “Quiz Bowl Club of UGA”).

Parking for the tournament is available at three locations, all of which are free for visitors. The first of which is the Tate Center Parking Deck (705 S. Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30605), and the second of which is the Hull Street Parking Deck (400 S. Hull Street, Athens, GA 30602). The third of these is the Legion Lot, located across the street from the Tate Deck. The Tate Center Parking Deck is adjacent to the Miller Learning Center, the tournament building. The Hull Street Parking Deck is a short walk from the tournament building.
