The 2020 Scottie

Post by Scottietodd »

Hello everyone!

I am pleased to announce the 2020 Scottie, to be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020. The Scottie will be held REMOTELY this year by Glasgow HIgh School due to the uncertainty of the Covid pandemic.

The Scottie is a house-write by current and former players and staff for Glasgow High School and will be edited by:
Coach Todd Garrison - Head coach at Glasgow High School
Tyler Reid - Former Scottie and University of Kentucky QBer
Olivia Kiser - Former Scottie and University of Chicago QBer

The Scottie will include 36 teams placed into six pools of six for a morning round robin. Teams will be re-bracketed into pools of six in the afternoon, likely with two championship pools and four locked in placement pools. Prizes will be award for the top 4 teams, the top small school, and the top 10 individual performances from the morning rounds.

While in the past the Scottie has achieved Platinum certification by PACE, at this time, there is no guarantee that anyone will qualify for a national tournament by playing the Scottie remotely.

The methodology for hosting the Scottie remotely will be announced at a later date.

Each round will consist of 20 tossups with three-part bonuses that WILL NOT bounce-back.
There will be 15 point powers but no negs.

The question distribution will include the following:
History 4/4 - American, Anglo, Euro, World
Literature 4/4 - American, British, Euro, World
Science 4/4 - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Other (Astronomy, Earth, non-comp Math)
Art 3/3 - Visual, Auditory, Other (Musicals, film, architecture, dance)
Religion 1/1
Mythology 1/1
Thought 1/1 Philosophy, Social Science
Geography 1/1
Pop Culture-Trash 0.5/0.5
Current Events 0.5/0.5

The fee for each team will be $60 for the first team from a school and $50 for each additional team.

For now, feel free to email [email protected] to claim a spot. As we near the opening (I hope) of school, I will include a Google Form to register with the appropriate information. Be advised: It is likely that a maximum of 4 players will be allowed to participate on a team, with no substitutions possible. This is a work in progress and I promise to keep you updated in a timely fashion.

We are looking forward to having a great event and hope you will be able to join us!

Thank you for the question Dylan. Despite the fact that we advertise the Scottie as fall and early spring, we had mirrors all the way until literally 4 days ago (May 31). Many of the current events question are quite stale after 8 to 10 months. So we extended geography to 1/1 and intend for much, if not the majority of the pop culture/trash to be current. While I realize that is not quite the same, that is currently the plan. It is possible that we will go with Trash/Current Events as 0.5/0.5. Thanks again.

So as a follow up to Dylan's question, we will be having 0.5/0.5 Pop Culture/Trash and 0.5/0.5 Current Events instead of 1/1 PC/T. Thanks.
