Colorado Online Fall Opener (9/19/20)

Post by peterlande »

It is my pleasure to announce the Colorado Online Fall Opener on September 19th, 2020, hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder. At this tournament, teams will be able to qualify for both HSNCT.

Location and schedule:
The tournament will be held online via discord. The tournament will begin at 9:00 AM MST, and teams should be on discord by 8:45. Since the transition may be difficult for teams we will be willing to host scrimmages on the server upon request. Additional information, including discord link, will be emailed to registered teams.

Registration emails should be sent to [email protected]. Please let us know how many teams, staffers, and buzzers your school will be bringing.

$60 for the first team from each school ($30 for schools new to quiz bowl)
$30 for each subsequent team
Moderator discount: -$10/staffer
Minimum fee: $20/team

The new school discount applies to any school that did not compete in a multi-subject, pyramidal quiz bowl tournament during the 2019-2020 school year. This does not include Knowledge Bowl, Science Bowl, or History Bowl.

We're committed to making quiz bowl accessible for all teams regardless of financial status. If the fee structure here would be a financial burden on your team, please email me.

Field cap:
We are setting a tentative field cap of 12 teams; this will change as we get more moderators. We are currently limiting schools to 2 teams. This is subject to change as we have more moderators.

Due to tournaments moving to an online format we realize that readers/moderators may be unfamiliar with the software being used. In order to help transition to discord, we will be holding a moderator training session before the tournament. We do ask that moderators provide a headset and mic to use while reading. Additional information and dates for training will be given to potential moderators.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at [email protected].
