UKY Fall 2020 Announcement

The University of Kentucky Quiz Bowl Team is pleased to announce the eighth annual University of Kentucky Fall Championship, a high school quiz bowl tournament taking place on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Due to the current circumstances, we will be hosting the tournament remotely through an online format. The tournament will begin by 9:30 AM EST and we hope to conclude no later than 5:30 PM.

This tournament is regionally closed, so it will only be open to Kentucky teams and teams from surrounding areas.

Registration

This tournament will be run through Discord. We will have a tentative cap of 16 teams, and we will increase the cap as we get more staffers. We will limit registrations to A and B teams until September 26th, after which additional teams may be registered. We ask that a team have no more than four players, as substitutions aren’t as practical in online formats. The tournament will feature pool play in the morning, followed by a rebracketing into playoff pools in the afternoon, and all teams can expect to play 9 or 10 games. Games will be standard untimed NAQT format (two halves of 10 tossups and 3-part bonuses without bounce-backs), powers and negs.

Question set

We will be using the 2020-2021 rendition of the Matt Cvijanovich Memorial Tournament (MCMT) set. This is a regular high school difficulty set, and distribution information can be found here:

Fee Structure

$60 for a school’s first team and $50 for each additional team.
Teams who have never played pyramidal quiz bowl automatically qualify for the minimum fee of $50.
