Triton Winter IX "@" UCSD [1-16-2021]

Post by Arras Agility »

The UCSD Quizbowl team is excited to announce that we will host Triton Winter IX online on Saturday, January 16, 2021.

This will be a high school tournament with Junior Varsity and Varsity divisions. The Varsity division will use NAQT's IS-197 set, and the JV division will use IS-196A. These question sets will not be used for San Diego Academic League, so teams participating in it may also play this tournament.

Eligibility:
Both divisions are only open to Southern California high school teams. The Varsity division is open to all such teams, while to be eligible for the Junior Varsity division, a team must have no players who have ever scored 50 or more points per game (PPG) in the JV division of a tournament, 30 or more PPG in a Varsity division, or 10 or more PPG at a high school national tournament. "Southern California schools" are those which are physically located or (if an online school) based in the ten southernmost California counties. "High schools" are defined according to NAQT eligibility rules. You can check statistics for eligibility purposes here.

Teams of more than six players will not be accepted.

Pricing:
New schools (schools that did not play a tournament in the 2019-2020 season) will pay a flat fee of $30 per team.
Returning schools will pay a base fee of $60 per team, with potential discounts.
There is a minimum fee of $30, after discounts, for each new or returning team.

Discounts:
-$10 per provided staff member properly equipped and capable of moderating and/or scorekeeping online.
-$10 per team that registers on or before December 31.

How to Register:
We are using the NAQT registration system. To register, use this link. Registration will open on Wednesday, December 16, and you must have an NAQT account to register. More logistics information (including information about payment methods) will be provided in the week preceding the tournament to teams that have registered. If you have any questions, email us at [email protected].

Registration Limits:
We will implement a soft field cap of 20 teams until we can confirm staffers, with soft caps of 10 teams for Varsity and 10 teams for Junior Varsity. We reserve the right to redistribute between these field caps, or selectively expand them. Returning schools will be limited to registering three teams each, between both divisions. Any additional teams they would like to register will be placed onto a waitlist, and allowed into the field as space allows in the week before the tournament.

We still need quite a few staff and will pay $20 for full-day external staffers.

Thanks to all the teams who played, and to all the staffers! The tournament went very smoothly. Congratulations to Arcadia and to Westview B, who respectively won Varsity and JV. Full stats are available at the tournament listing: https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/6734/

Hope to see all the SoCal teams at Triton Spring!
