BHSAT XXX at Yale (02/27/2021)

Yale Student Academic Competitions (YSAC) is pleased to announce that our thirtieth annual Bulldog High School Academic Tournament (BHSAT) will be held online via Discord on Saturday, February 27, 2021. The tournament will use untimed rounds of 20 tossups and bonuses from our housewritten BHSAT XXX set. More details on the set can be found here.

We will hold an opening meeting at 8:45 am EST and gameplay will begin at 9:00 am EST. Please direct any questions about the tournament to me at [email protected].


Eligibility
This tournament is primarily aimed towards high school teams from the following states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and New York. Schools from outside this region may still register, but preference will be shown to teams from the listed states, and then to teams from regions without announced BHSAT XXX mirrors.


Registration
If you would like to register your high school for BHSAT at Yale, please fill out this Google form. Please direct any questions to [email protected].

The field is currently capped at 24 teams. We may be able to expand depending on staff availability and will therefore maintain a wait-list. Please make sure to register as quickly as possible, since spots will likely go quickly.

Update as of 02/10/21: I will be consolidating the in-region and out-of-region groups on Wednesday, February 17, at 11:59 PM EST. The priorities will be as follows: in-region by date of registration, then out-of-region by date of registration. The first 24 teams will be officially registered, and the remaining will be placed on the waitlist (pending drops or field expansions). Any team that registers after the 17th will be placed at the end of the waitlist, regardless of region. End update.

Please be aware of our policy to prevent unannounced drops on the day of the tournament: if a registered team does not show up to the tournament and fails to notify the tournament director at least 36 hours in advance (barring extenuating circumstances), that team may be liable for a partial fee. This policy is not meant to punish teams that overestimate interest: registered teams will not be penalized for dropping out of the field so long as this does not happen within 36 hours of the announced tournament start time (9:00 am on 2/27).


Payment
Base fee: $80
Base fee for each additional team: $75
Moderator discount: -$30 per experienced scorekeeper or moderator
Minimum fee per school: $50

We prefer payment via Venmo, to @YaleQB; please email [email protected] and "cc" [email protected] at the time of your payment so we can confirm receipt. If you are unable to pay via this method, email [email protected] to sort out an alternative.


Conduct
YSAC does not tolerate misconduct of any form, including harassment and cheating. We will require all teams in attendance to adhere to a code of conduct which will be provided on registration. Incidents of potential misconduct can be reported directly to staff or through the anonymous misconduct reporting form.


Outside Staffers
We are offering pay outside staffers $30 for the day. If you are interested and capable of staffing an online tournament over Discord, please fill out this form to register. You do not need to be affiliated with any of the schools attending!
Note that we may stop accepting outside staffers once we reach a sufficient number to accommodate all teams. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.

BHSAT XXX at Yale has been designated a platinum NSC qualifier, meaning that the top 25% of teams will qualify for the PACE NSC national tournament.

Thanks to everyone who attended BHSAT XXX today! Belmont A won first place, going 4-1 in the afternoon playoffs and 9-1 overall. Hunter A placed second, and Phillips Academy placed third. The top 6 teams (full top bracket) qualified for PACE NSC. Full stats can be found here.
