RM Winter Novice — 12/18

Post by goose25 »

Richard Montgomery Quizbowl is pleased to announce the return of our annual Winter Novice Tournament, which will take place on Saturday, December 18th, 2021, in-person at Richard Montgomery High School! The tournament will feature a high school field run on SCOP Novice 11, and a separate middle school field run on CERES.

Details
The tournament will be held at 250 Richard Montgomery Drive, Rockville, MD 20852. Sign-in will open at 8:30 AM and rounds will start at 9:00. We will aim for a 5:00 PM end time, though we may finish as late as 6:00. All teams will be guaranteed 10 rounds (though there may be bye rounds) and a break for lunch.

Eligibility
This tournament is for novice players, and we ask for teams to use common sense while forming rosters. We reserve the right to remove players who we deem to be above novice level. Players who have scored 50 PPG or more across any tournament or who have competed at a national championship will need special permission to compete.

We also ask that teams carry no more than six players on any single team. Schools planning to bring more than six players should register another team.

Tournament Fees
The fee structure is as follows:
Base fee per team: $70
Buzzer discount (having at least 8 working buzzers): -$5 per system
Reader discount: -$15 per reader for the full day
Travel discount: -$10 per 100 miles, one-way (via Google Maps)
Minimum fee per team: $35

Payment
We will be accepting payment through cash or check made out to “Richard Montgomery High School.” Payment may be mailed in advance to 250 Richard Montgomery Drive, Rockville, MD 20852, addressed to Nathaniel Mason. Payment must be received before or on the day of the tournament.

Registration

Please register using this Google Form. Please note that forum posts and emails do not constitute a registration.

We will start by capping the high school field at 18 teams and the middle school field at 12 teams. We will expand the fields as more readers are confirmed.

Food
For lunch, pizza will be sold by the pie. There are also numerous restaurants within walking distance from the school.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to send them to us at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you on December 18th!
