Are schools able to travel to in-person events? I'm not even sure how to reach people at this point!

I just got permission to host an in-person tournament (masks required). If we set this up, will anyone come? I'm in Marlborough, MA.

I'd love to bring my kids to some real events! Let's see what we can make happen!

I'm not confident in my technical abilities enough to try to host an online tournament.

Also, I have quite a few middle schoolers this year and would love to see a little action for them too. Anyone interested in attending or hosting a MS event?

I've been considering running an online middle school tournament this year, maybe I'll do that in January or February? Otherwise I have a pretty decent email list to this point of quiz bowl, quiz show, and related teams I can send over to you. I know New Hampshire's league is back to in person so there must be at least some teams in the Greater Boston Area able to travel

Also, I have gotten approval for my Northern Maine Invitational Tournament at Waterville Senior High School on February 5th. It's a bit of a hike for Boston teams but if y'all want to come up to my neck of the woods we'd be happy to have you.

Hi! Belmont High School and Chenery Middle School would both be interested if you hosted AMSA events in-person (or virtually as well!) Chenery would also definitely be interested in attending middle school / high school novice events. Belmont is planning on running BAIT this year, although we haven't decided on a date and whether it will be in person or virtual. Chenery may also hold a virtual tournament this year, possibly on CERES.

I think Staples would be interested in attending a HS event at AMSA.

Tournament Updates:

Hanover is hosting GHOST V on SCOP this weekend (email William Murphy to sign up: [email protected])

There are rumblings that Boston Area C Set will be at Beaver Country Day in Chestnut Hill on December 11th, NHQBL also has a meet at Merrimack the same day.

Northern Maine Invitational Tournament is happening on IS-208 at Waterville Senior High School in Waterville on February 5th

I think that's it for now, if anybody has more tourneys they want to announce feel free to

We are good to begin traveling to events at Plymouth and still plan to host one, if not more events this year.

Chenery may also hold a virtual tournament this year, possibly on CERES.
This tournament is tentatively scheduled for February 12th, 2022. It will be open to all middle school teams, mostly comprised of experienced teams who may attend MSNCT.

EDIT: The forum post is here.

AMSA would like to claim March 5th for an in-person tournament. I'll post a full announcement soon. I don't think our likely field overlaps with the VT circuit too much so I hope I'm not stepping on toes.

Hi All,

AMSA is hosting the The Central Massachusetts Winter Tournament on March 5th
It is - hooray! - in person at AMSA, 201 Forest St., Marlborough, MA 01752.

Registration is open here: naqt.com/go/register/13075
We will use NAQT's IS-208. Please make sure you have not already played this set. We will play comp math.

Field Cap is 24 and ideally, we'll have a varsity (advanced) and a jv (novice) division. Middle school programs are encouraged to register and play in the novice division.

Registration will be open from 8:15 to 8:45. We'll have a quick opening meeting at 8:45 and our goal will be to be playing round 1 by 9:00 a.m. All teams will be guaranteed 10 rounds of play. Our goal will be to have regular play done by 4 and any play-offs done by 4:30.

Registration: $80 for first team, $65 for additional teams. $5 buzzer discount; $10 staffer discount.

Covid Protocols: Our school will still be under a mask-required protocol. All players and staffers will be required to wear masks while indoors. We will also have hand sanitizer available in all rooms and will try our best to set up rooms with appropriate spacing. Because we want to encourage people to not attend if they are symptomatic, there is no charge if your team needs to drop out at any time because of Covid. Please be courteous and don't take advantage of this!

Are you a new coach or team? Let me know if I can answer any questions or help in anyway with this tournament or with running a team in general!

I can't wait to play real, live, in-person Quiz Bowl with you all and see my friends I've missed for 2 years!
