NOW ONLINE - QuBIT VIII @ High Tech [DART II Mirror] - 2/5/22

Post by keliu23 »

High Technology High School is pleased to announce our eighth annual Quiz Bowl Invitational Tournament (QuBIT VIII), to take place on Saturday, February 5th, 2022. We'll be mirroring DART II, a HS hard level housewrite by the Detroit County Day School team. This set is significantly easier than the one used for QuBIT VII. UPDATE: Now that QuBIT is online, we have decided to implement a regional restriction to allow only Northeast teams (northeast of DE and PA, inclusive).

I, Kevin Liu, will be the Tournament Director of QuBIT VIII.

QuBIT VIII will be held via Discord using https://buzzin.live/. Cameras will be required throughout this tournament and must show both hands of each player. This will be strictly enforced.

We will hold the opening meeting at 8:30 AM and aim to start the first round at 9 AM.

The top three teams will receive trophies. Book prizes will be awarded to the top ten prelim scorers during lunch.

Registration:
Registration for this tournament will only be accepted through this form. Teams may bring experienced moderators to read or scorekeep for a discount of $30.

Question Set:
We will be mirroring DART II, a HS hard level housewrite produced by Detroit County Day School with difficulty comparable to HFT. More information can be found here. This set is significantly easier than last year’s, STASH.

Format:
The field has a hard cap of 24 teams.

10 rounds will be played in total, 5 being preliminary rounds.

Prelims will consist of four brackets of six teams playing a round robin before lunch. The top two teams in each bracket will move on to two championship brackets with four teams each. Other teams will be put into four consolation brackets similarly. Crossover finals will be played between brackets to fully determine placement. This format is laid out in this spreadsheet.

This tournament will use the ACF ruleset with the optional powermark addendum.

Fee Structure:
$85 for each team. (No more than six players per team; only four players playing at a time).
-$10 per working buzzer system, no limit.
-$30 per moderator, no limit. (moderators do not need to bring their own laptops)
Minimum fee of $45 per team.

Payment:
Since the tournament is now remote, there is no buzzer discount and the registration payment check should be made payable to the Monmouth County Vocational School District with the memo line of "High Tech Academic Team". The check should be mailed to

Misconduct:
We are committed to keeping quizbowl a safe place for all participants. Harassment, cheating, and other forms of misconduct will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to remove any player or team. Players will be expected to abide by the PACE Code of Conduct. If you would like to report any misconduct by players, staffers, or others, please contact us or fill out the Misconduct Reporting Form.

If you have any questions about this tournament, reply to this thread or email us at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you in February!

Note: All teams must adhere to the mask and vaccine mandate (with proof). If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination, then participants must submit a negative test result from within 72 hours before the start of the tournament.

In addition to the proof of vaccination OR negative COVID-19 test result, all people entering the High Tech building (not just players) must fill out and pass our district's COVID symptom questionnaire, which can be found here.

Now that QuBIT VIII is held online, we have decided to implement a regional restriction to allow only Northeast teams (northeast of DE and PA, inclusive). If you would like to appeal this (for instance, if you can't attend your own regional mirror), then please email us at [email protected].
