MRNA VACCINE Mirror at Vanderbilt (2/19/2022)

Post by sharathun »

Vanderbilt University Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce we will be hosting a mirror site of MRNA VACCINE, an upper-medium difficulty college tournament to be held on February 19th, 2022. I, Sharath Narayan, will serve as tournament director. The opening meeting will be held at 8:30 AM, with the first round beginning promptly at 9 AM CST.

Location and Directions:
The tournament will take place in Buttrick Hall, 2400 Vanderbilt Pl, Nashville, TN 37212, approachable easily from I-440's exit 1A onto West End heading north, or I-40's exit 209B on Broadway heading South towards the Medical Center, or just from Charlotte Ave. to West End heading towards the West side of campus near the roundabout near Kirkland Hall. Note: you can't actually park near Buttrick Hall, but you can drive up close to it (for drop-off) via West Side Row off 24th Ave S which will put you behind Rand dining hall with a 2 minute walk to Buttrick Hall.

Parking:
Parking is limited, so I've linked the campus map, a campus parking map, and the Medical Center parking map. These should give adequate guidelines for parking and locations. We generally suggest parking in either the Terrace Place or Wesley Place garages, which are about 7-10 minutes from Buttrick Hall, but free and likely large enough, as opposed to the reserved lots that surround the area.

Questions:
This tournament will be run using MRNA VACCINE (Medium RaNge Academic, a Vanderbilt and Company Collaboration vIa NEtwork). More information can be found at viewtopic.php?t=25034.

Eligibility:
This tournament is for teams of eligible players representing a single university, community college, or other post-secondary institution of higher education. Edge cases regarding eligibility will be handled according to the ACF guidelines. No "mixed" or "open" teams are permitted at this site.

Games will be conducted in the normal 20/20 tossup/bonus format; other than the inclusion of power tossups, the ACF rules will be used. The tournament format will endeavor to offer each team the maximum number of games possible within a reasonable timeframe, and will be determined in specific based on the number of teams who register.

Format:
Rounds will consist of 20 tossups with three-part bonuses. There will be powers and negs, but no bounce back on bonuses. Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets and playoff brackets will be determined based on preliminary record. All teams will be offered a minimum of 8 games, and statistics will be kept in full. Rounds will not be timed. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated during the tournament.

Fees:
The fees for the tournament are as follows:
Base fee: $120
-$10 discount per working buzzer system (max 2 per team)
-$15 discount for teams that provide an experienced moderator (as determined by the TD/if staff is necessary)
-$10 discount per 200 miles traveled one way from your school to Vanderbilt University as determined by Google Maps.
Minimum fee per team: $40

Thank you all for coming out to MRNA VACCINE today. Georgia Tech cleared the field (10-0) to take the tournament championship.
