MRNA VACCINE at Vanderbilt - Nationwide HS Mirror (3/26/2022, Online)

Post by sharathun »

Vanderbilt University Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce the national high school mirror of MRNA VACCINE, to be held on March 26th, 2022. This tournament is intended for high school teams looking to play a set of medium college difficulty (2 dots on the college difficulty scale), which is great preparation for nationals tournaments such as NAQT HSNCT and PACE NSC. Since this is a national mirror, the tournament will take place entirely online. I, Sharath Narayan, will serve as tournament director. The first round will begin promptly at 9 AM CST, and the tournament should finish by 6 PM CST.

Questions:
This tournament will be run using MRNA VACCINE (Medium RaNge Academic, a Vanderbilt and Company Collaboration vIa NEtwork). This is a college medium difficulty set. More information can be found here.

Format:
The tournament will be conducted using Zoom and buzzin.live. Rounds will consist of 20 tossups with three-part bonuses. There will be powers and negs, but no bounce back on bonuses. Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets and playoff brackets will be determined based on preliminary record. All teams will be offered a minimum of 8 games, and statistics will be kept in full. Rounds will not be timed. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated during the tournament. As the tournament is held online, players are highly encouraged to use a webcam that would be kept on during the matches to deter cheating.

The fees for the tournament are as follows:
$120 for the first team sent by a school
$115 for the second team sent by a school
$110 for all subsequent teams

We will offer a $15 discount for teams that provide an experienced moderator for the tournament (as needed).
