ANNOUNCEMENT: 2022 NAQT South Carolina State Championship -- Saturday, May 14, 2022 -- Columbia, SC ***CANCELED***

Post by uscjd2004 »

Greetings!

On behalf of the new South Carolina Academic Competition Association (SCACA), I write today to announce the 2022 NAQT South Carolina State Championship. This is a preliminary communique to enable coaches, students, and other stakeholders to begin making arrangements to attend the tournament, which will be held on the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Sponsor/Leadership: The State Championship will be presented by SCACA and directed by Eric Douglass, coach of the University of South Carolina Academic Team. Email Eric at [email protected] if you have questions or would like to volunteer your help as a member of the tournament staff.

Format/Rules: The State Championship will be contested on NAQT Invitational Series questions: IS-210. Here are a few basics concerning rules and procedures. NAQT Rules will be observed. Rounds will consist of 20 tossups with bonuses, power points and interrupt penalties will be scored, and bonuses will not bounce. The format of the tournament (divisions, number of rounds, playoff structure, etc.) will depend on the size of the field. Further details will be given in the near future.

Registration/Fees: The State Championship will use NAQT’s automated system for registration. Details concerning fees and discounts will be communicated in the next few days. Once those details have been published, registration will begin. SCACA intends to keep teams’ registration costs low to encourage robust attendance of the State Championship.

Awards: The State Championship will present a range of awards to top teams and individual scorers. These will include team trophies, book prizes, and more. Further details will be given in the near future.

That’s it for now! Please feel free to spread the word, as my distribution list might not reach all who should see this communique.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the tournament in May!
