Fleming County Academic Tournament (January 7, 2023) Flemingsburg, KY

Post by FCPanther »

The Fleming County High School Academic Panthers are pleased to announce that we plan to return to in person competition for the 2023 Fleming County Academic Tournament. We will resume hosting the FCAT on January 7, 2023 at FCHS. There are, however, a few planned changes from past years.

In previous years we have utilized a hybrid format of NAQT toss up questions with single part bonuses. The newest iteration of the FCAT will return to traditional Kentucky quick recall format. We have secured a question set to be written by individuals with a background in KAAC quick recall that will make it possible to keep the best of quizbowl format and quick recall.

The tournament will consist of a varsity division and a "B" division. We do have a cap of 32 teams at this time.

Morning round robin brackets will be used to seed afternoon rounds, allowing us to rank the field.

Entry fee for a school's first team is $80. Additional teams from a school may enter for $40. We ask that schools currently limit entry to no more than 2 teams at this point. Schools wishing to include more than two teams may be able to do so closer to tournament time, depending on the available space.

We also ask that participants provide a working buzzer system (non-computerized) and a moderator of scorekeeper. It is impossible to run a tournament without enough help to man each competition room.

With exactly one month until FCAT 23 it's time for a field update. Currently the tournament has 30 team registered, with a 32 team cap.

Here's the field:
Fleming Co. x2
Russell x2
Johnson Central x2
Rowan Co. x2
Campbell Co. x2
Bishop Brossart x2
Mason Co. x2
Montgomery Co. x2
Danville x1
Ashland x2
Lafayette x2
Corbin x1
Northmont (OH) x2
Lawrence Co. x2
Johnson Middle x1
Ballard x1
Berea x1

We do intend to have varsity and "B" divisions. We are using IceQuickle 2 as our tournament set and will play a quick recall format. Morning pool play will consist of three matches, with afternoon seeded pools of at least 3 games, with a finals matchup in round 7.

If we reach cap I will open a waiting list. Hope to see you on January 7 in Flemingsburg.
