DART III (HS Hard) (2023)

Post by 21_Cabbage »

Hello everyone!

I am thankful to announce the THIRD edition of DART (Detroit Country Day Academic Regular Tournament) - ready for mirrors starting in 2023. Like the previous two editions, all proceeds from DART III will go to Detroit's Gleaners Food Bank. DART III is written by a dedicated team of writers from across the country who were accepted through an application process.

DART III will have 13 packets, each with 20 tossups and 20 bonuses with extra tiebreakers and replacements. Tossups will be powermarked, pyramidal, and capped at 650 characters each. Bonuses will have three parts. DART III's difficulty is similar to that of last year's edition and comparable to past editions of the Harvard Fall Tournament or Yale's BHSAT. The 2 finals packets will be more difficult than the rest to offer a challenge. There will be no computational math tossups. DART III will be great practice for teams hoping to attend the High School National Championship Tournament.

DART III will be head-edited by Arthur Gayden (DCDS). Our subject editors are Adam Sun (Stanford/ex-DCDS), Geoffrey Wu (Columbia), Eric Yin (WashU), Josh Rubel (Williams), Tegan Kapadia (Georgia Tech), Vishal Sareddy (Berkeley), Vedul Palavajjhala (WashU), Neal Joshi (WashU), and Eric Mukherjee.

The subject distribution per set will be as follows:
4/4 Science (13/13 Biology, 13/13 Physics, 10/10 Chemistry, 8/8 Math/Computer Science/Engineering, 8/8 Astronomy/Earth Science/Other)
4/4 History (17/17 American, 13/13 British/European, 13/13 World, 4/4 "Ancient," 5/5 Mixed/Other)
4/4 Literature (17/17 American, 13/13 British, 10/10 European (including Classical), 8/8 World, 4/4 Mixed/Other)
3/3 Fine Arts (13/13 Painting/Sculpture, 13/13 Classical Music/Jazz, 13/13 Other Fine Arts)
2/2 Belief & Thought (8/8 Mythology, 5/5 Religion, 8/8 Social Science, 5/5 Philosophy)
2/2 The World (13/13 Geography, 10/10 Current Events, 3/3 Miscellaneous)
1/1 Trash (5/5 Sports, 4/4 Popular Music, 4/4 Popular Culture/Other)

The mirror fee is $20 per attending team, including the host team. We require that tournament hosts not change our questions' content or format. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to [email protected] with the subject line: "DART III."
For mirror requests, please email [email protected] with the subject line "DART III Mirror Request."
