Eyes XI - Summer 2022

Post by Mike Bentley »

After a few years off, I'm working on another Eyes That Do Not See. This is a visual tournament on visual arts, meaning you'll see the clues in a PowerPoint presentation.

Traditionally, this tournament has been a shootout on 100 tossups. After playing JAVA last year, I'm a little more inclined to go with an online team event this time around.

Please vote in the poll for your preferred format (you can pick more than one). Poll will end around 7/17. I expect the main mirror of this to be online regardless of what format we choose but I'm not opposed to some in-person mirrors. Due to the logistics, I don't expect in-person events to be teams unless a host can get a lot of different rooms with projectors.

I have about 50 questions written so far. Not sure exactly when the set will be done. It will depend in part on the target format since some will require more questions than others. I'd probably go with 7 or 8 rounds of 20 tossups for a teams event.

There are some accessible answers but it will be a challenging set overall. There will be a handful of answers that are mostly new to quizbowl. But also some that are pretty standard in the lower difficulty range.

There will likely be a little more world art and more borderline other visual arts to go along with trends in mainstream quizbowl over the past few years. Although I suspect it will overall be a little closer to the older art canon than a few recent events.

Online doubles is the clear winner.

I should have the set ready by late August. I'll post a date poll soon.

The set is now mostly done. There are 8 packets of 20 tossups, plus some tiebreakers. This year's set has both super powers (20 points) and regular powers (15 points).

I'll work on getting these linked from the question archive soon (along with some of the older sets not on there).
